i thought the casting and acting were fantastic (especially Cameron Britton as Kemper and Holt McCallany as Tench), and with the last 15 minutes of the final episode they have set themselves up for who-knows-what in season 2...which is just how it should be.

shame it won't be released for another year or so.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet in this thread, but I really enjoyed Gerald's Game. On top of a very good adaption of a Stephen King story, it has one of the single best practical effects scenes I have ever seen.

Really enjoyed Norsemen. A Norwegian comedy about Vikings. It has a real Monty Python feel.

I figured out Disney's plan with their streaming service over in the Star Wars thread. They're going to announce 3-5 series in the Star Wars universe that are along the lines of the Marvel series, exclusive to the Disney streaming platform.
Late response, but if you have any interest at all in the Enron saga, you should look up Project Braveheart, which was the proposed streaming/on-demand joint venture between the two. Or you could just read "The Smartest Guys in the Room", which is a fantastic book that has approximately nothing to do with Netflix. You should not, though, watch "The Smartest Guys in the Room" movie, which is dreadful.

Let's say there are two groups of people:

1) People who read the book. These people are going to be (should be, at least) appalled at the lack of detail in this movie. Rather than spending time providing the (really interesting) details of the various aspects of Enron's decline, the moviemakers decide to interject cute clips like dice rolling across a craps table, or a metaphorical astronaut falling back to earth, or a motocross biker jumping across a canyon. One of the strangest interjections was a fairly lengthy (and graphic) segment showing a bunch of strippers, just to illustrate that Lou Pai (Enron Energy CEO) used to love strip clubs. Just to be clear - this struck me as not an unbiased documentary, but as a political film.

2) People who didn't read the book. These people aren't going to learn anything at all because there is virtually nothing of substance talked about. Yes, there are allegations of Enron doing wrong and (less pronounced) allegations of Andersen and the I-Banks doing wrong, but there's no meat there. If you haven't read the book but think you know something about Enron, save your time and skip the movie. The movie doesn't have enough substance to change your mind, but it's got enough flash to reinforce an unsubstantiated opinion.

The only upside to watching the movie is seeing actual footage of various historical events. What I found interesting (and fairly represented, based on my understanding) was:
- the advice for Enron employees to own 100% stock in their retirement accounts.
- C-span footage of Skilling interviews in Congress. (But I'm also a sucker for that Buffett clip talking about the Salomon scandal in congress.)
- other archival footage of Enron execs extolling the virtues of various business strategies.

Overall, I'm very interested in this topic and was a huge fan of the Elkin/McLean book. When I talk about accounting (which is more frequent than I'd like), I often refer to specific Enron transactions/deals as being especially egregious. Unfortunately, this tried to capture the emotion of the book, but without any substance, it just struck me as a politicized screed.

I haven't been this disappointed by a book-movie transition since "Simon Birch".

I did a few pages back and agree it was pretty enjoyable.

See they added 1922 which is another king adaption. It's a short story I've read a bunch of times on the commode. Got ok reviews, probably give it a watch tonight.

What is the movie Suburra you are talking about?
IMDB Link here

The series is based off the film which released in 2015. Has many of the same actors as the series (notable exception of Samurai but the actor they chose for the series does look similar).

It's still up on US netflix. I thought the series was better but if you enjoyed the series you'll surely like the film. It takes place some years later with Aureliano being an established boss who is losing his grip.

Cool, as a kid I read all the Robert Ressler books and was quite set on becoming a profiler lol.

On another note, just noticed Ressler's no longer with us actually.

Watched 1922.

It's definitely a slow burn. Atmosphere is pretty good. Not sure how having read the book affected by enjoyment.

6.5/10

Also Bill Compton/Robert Quarrles is in it. Love that actor.

Will prolly watch 1922 and give a non-having read the story rating.

I like that actor also.

Never really been a fan of hers but I really enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Wish it would have been longer, more grandmother and personal life stuff.

Really liking Mindhunter through 4 episodes, especially the fact that they go mostly for the psychological angle and don't rely heavily on shock scenes like so many other shows these days. Which they could so easily do given the subject matter.

And like others have said, the guy who plays Kemper is awesome.

Its was painfully obvious the Blockbuster model was doomed years before their demise, its amazing the people running the place couldn't see this. They were in perfect position to be "Netflix" yet chose to die. There never should have been a Netflix if Blockbuster wasn't so damn arrogant

About the end of Mindhunter.

Spoiler:
Am I the only one who loved the show right up until the last 10 minutes of the final episode? It felt like 10 hours of great writing with the laziest cliffhanger ever slapped onto the end of it.

Though to be fair the very first death we see is pretty damn shocking.

You might like The Bridge or The Missing and maybe that Danish show which I can't think of the name but I am sure someone else will remember. No idea if these are on Netflix though.

Try Ripper Street. A British show set in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper killings. They just added season 5 recently. Haven't seen the most recent season yet, but the 1st 4 were great.

Why is this not in the tv forum? I was looking for a thread like this, OOT aint the spot imo.

Anyone watch Love by Jud Apatow? Just binged that and was pretty awesome especially since I'm dealing with some ex-gf crazy stuff. It really helps with how crazy stuff can get in relationships lol. Especially with a crazy broad like the main character.

Also Peaky Blinders had me addicted till I watched all the seasons.
