getting the rights to air music from all kinds of disparate sources is a logistical nightmare

As much as I generally dislike editing of any kind, I'd be totally down with them ditching the musical performances in the SNL recordings for Netflix, and don't really care why. They've always seemed like a pointless speed bump in the course of the show, although presumably I'm in the minority on this as I'm not a fan of live music. Other than something spectacular like Ashlee Simpson [censored] up or Sinead O'Connor wigging out there isn't much point watching them again.

Most of the artists are pretty terrible but seeing a band you really like performing in a unique venue is pretty awesome, and it's pretty easy to fast forward through stuff in WI anyways.

Man especially stuff from the 70s and 80s, electric guitar wuttttt

They said Larry Sanders would never happen because of the music and they finally got all of that out.

I'd rather the music be in SNL with the option to skip. I'm not planning on watching through very many episodes/seasons in full anyway, I'm just looking for certain sketches.

i don't know how much music was used on larry sanders, but there was definitely demand for that show to be out on dvd. i don't think SNL seasons 6-10 will be released on dvd. as such, if it's only netflix paying for those episodes, there's no way there's enough financial incentive.

Anyone else have a problem with the voice track not matching the video on anything?

wesrwood, I've had it happen once or twice. Go to the site and use the report problem from the instant watch activity page, out of sync audio/video is one of the options.

Watched Big Night on instant watch last night. Nothing spectacular about the story - Italian brothers, one uncompromising culinary master, one business oriented, try to save their badly in debt restaurant with a party and feast of a lifetime for a well known Jazz musician. But the acting, writing, and unique characters make this little film shine. It's quirky, funny, and deeply emotional at times. I especially recommend this for cooks/food lovers. 4/5

Yea that was a response to the Wonder Years and other comments before mine. I wasn't saying that SNL should/could easily be done.

Wow I just finished Louis CK's season 1 show. Seriously, what the hell. The first 3-4 episodes were pretty funny and from there it pretty much just turns in to this really depressing drama. There's seriously an entire episode where he and his mother don't get along and his brother just bursts in to tears and then it's like THE END.

Oh yeah, spoiler, I just saved you from watching the most depressing comedy ever.

The cold open on episode 2 was hilarious though

Hint - it's not a comedy.

just one of those drama shows where they show clips of someone doing standup comedy and then basing the rest of the show around said standup.

Like that other classic drama Seinfeld.

This is a good movie. I watched it years ago, but haven't got around to re-watching it although it's in my queue.

I really would like to try to make the main dish, timpano, but it looks like a huge pain in the ass.

Pro Tip: Louie is not Seinfeld.

Decided to take the plunge this afternoon and watch "I Think We're All Alone Now."

Quote:
This documentary focuses on two individuals obsessed with 1980s pop star Tiffany: Jeff, a 50-year-old man with Asperger's syndrome, and Kelly, an "intersexual" who claims to have had an inspirational friendship with the singer when they were teens. While others have called Jeff and Kelly stalkers, the film reveals that in their shared world the two outcasts understand that having something -- anything--to believe in is what life is all about.
So many words could be used to describe it. Not really sure what to say, but it sure does leave an impression even though it only runs 60 minutes.

i can go on and on about this, and the louie thread in OOTV already covered this discussion ad nauseam, but the roots of stand-up comedy aren't funny things, necessarily. often it's horribly sad, disturbing, or [censored] up stuff that can result in a hilarious comedy bit (for instance, the first episode of louie where he talks about his dead dog). seinfeld didn't explore this at all, in part because seinfeld's material was just about as light as can be.

Still, it's a bunch of comedians in every episode and there are tons of comedic things going on, like the blonde chick planted etc etc etc and he's a comedian ffs.

idk I just wasn't feeling the last few episodes and where they went with it.

totally fine to not like them, but it's not a strictly 'comedy show'.
