Omar - I feel you. But if you have a Cable/Satellite/Telco multi-channel service, you realize you are paying for TV with ads?

Also, from this interview with Jason Kilar (CEO of Hulu):

http://mediamemo.allthingsd.com/2010...ller-we-swear/

Quote:
Hulu Plus will cost $10 a month, but will still feature ads. Haven’t Web users been conditioned to expect ads with free stuff, but not with stuff they pay for?

I don’t think that’s [the case]. We’ve done so much research about this, in terms of talking to thousands and thousands of people about the service, in obviously confidential ways that mask the brand name behind this…The vast majority of consumers actually pay for premium content through subscription and get advertising. And by that I’m referring to [cable TV, in the] living room environment. Which is where most of the consumption happens these days.

What we found in our research is that there isn’t this sort of belief of “If I’m paying for this, I must have no ads.” What [we asked] consumers was, “If you had a choice between having it be with no ads and at a higher price, [versus] having it with a relatively modest level of advertising but lower priced, which would you prefer?” They dramatically chose, in large numbers, the latter.

There’s no reason why we couldn’t offer an ad-free version of this. It just would be at a higher price.

Here are some of my thoughts on the service vs. Netflix:

Here is a decent roundup of what the 2 services look like side by side:

The XBox feature is the only thing that would make me consider this. Netflix+Hulu streaming through my Xbox for about $20/mo total is a decent alternative to cable TV. I just wish Hulu had more cable networks and I'd seriously consiuder cutting the cord with cable. I'm paying $80/mo for Cable+DVR+Taxes, so Netflix+Hulu+Boxee or something similar can save me a ton. I'd probably have to give up lots of sports, unless I bought some of the online services, but I think those blackout all the local games I care about anyway.

I'm excited. Now whenever I click on this thread I don't immediately see Avatar every time.

Sandlot OMG awesome.

Premium Hulu would be great if and only if they have full runs of TV shows to watch. Even then I'm not sold.

Just watched Surrogates (2009, Bruce Willis) on instant after adding it to my DVD Queue. It was decent. About exactly what I expected.

Also I don't know if I've mentioned it ITT, but Friday Night Lights is AMAZING. I can't believe how good that show is. I breezed through all 4 seasons (1-3 available on NFI) in about 3 weeks. Highly recommended if you're at all interested in football or quality character dramas.

But whereas w/ cable we don't have a choice, Hulu has a direct competitor offering largely the same service at similar pricing with no ads.

don't really want to pay for two services, and I think I'll get more use out of Netflix than I would hulu. Plus, most the stuff on that link that I'd want to watch are on netflix too.

If a lot of shows drop netflix support, I might consider it once it goes to both ps3 and xbox (have one in bedroom, one in living room). But $10/month seems high since I now get streaming plus two discs at a time (counting blu-ray) for $17.

My opinion could change down the road, but initially I'm not interested in hulu plus.

Watch the middle half hour and skip the rest. There is only so much pointless violence you can watch before it gets boring. It would be one thing if the movie was trying to make some sociological or political statement, but it's pretty much just he goes out and kills a bunch of people and then the movie ends.

The House of the Devil (2009) is really good. It's a lot like Rosemary's Baby.

Awww ****, Zombieland! Hilarious movie with one of my favorite cameos in years from Bill Murray.

I caught Law Abiding Citizen the other day per a friend's recommendation and wasn't that impressed. Its only entertaining if you are willing to sacrifice pretty much all logic and reason for some cheap violence and thrills. If thats your bag, you'll definitely enjoy it though.

Everybody needs to watch Black Dynamite right now. Spoof on 70's blaxploitation films. Funniest over the top type movie i've seen in a long time.

Just noticed that Babylon 5 is on there. That's cool, pretty decent chance I go through the whole series now. Five season sci-fi show from the '90s. My friend called it "the poor man's Star Trek" which is pretty accurate wrt sets and such, but supposedly the overall story is great (I've seen the first season which is okay, but it gets better I hear). It was written all along as a "novel" in 5 parts, so if you're looking for something like that there you go.
