A word of warning to others. netflix recommended a movie based on my high rating of teen comedies like american Pie, harold and kumar and a few others called Cashback which in the description sounded fairly entertaining anout a kid workinig overnights in a grocery store discovering he can stop time. but omg was this boring! I actually had to turn it off about 40 minutes in, which is extremely rare for me. Don't know if it wil be as bad as it seemed to me, but at the very least it is miss-categorized as a teem comedy.

Cashback was really good.

Edit: but not a comedy

Tom Wolfe's "The Right Stuff" was a box office flop but a really good film about the top test pilots(especially Chuck Yeager) post WW2 leading to the Mercury 7 Astronauts and the early days of the space program. Fun and interesting.

I did have some problems with the stream hanging up (with no problems for most other films). From glancing at the index to the reviews on RT looks like there might be a new upgraded 2-DVD set out but not sure that's the one Netflix would send you.

Watched the first 2 seasons of Brotherhood recently was amazed I had never heard of it before really great show.

"Set in an Irish neighbourhood in Providence, the series reflects around two brothers on opposite sides of the law: one a gangster (Jason Isaacs) and the other a politician (Jason Clarke)."

Watched "The Boy in Striped Pajamas" last night. Nazi themed movie kinda thru the eyes of a kid that doesn't understand wtf is going on. Good movie....but not so warm fuzzy.

It certainly had some comedic moments, but it's not a laugh-a-minute gag reel. Still, I very much enjoyed it.

Entire Whedonverse is on there now apparently.

Watch Buffy. Get through the first season, which isn't great. The second and third seasons are incredible, and the villains in each of those seasons make up 2 out of my 3 favorite characters ever from anything. When I finished S2 I was pretty distraught because I was like "oh **** that may have been better than Sopranos."

Coming originally from Rhode Island I'm curious which side they portray as the good guys?

awesome show from Showtime, both sides are corrupt.. just one brother is an all out law breaking mafia type, the other is involved in corrupt politics.

Showtime cancelled the show after season 2 just last year i believe which is a gdamn tragedy... such a great show.

Sounds like they got Rhode Island just about right so it's on my Q.

You might want to check out "Federal Hill" which was also set in Rhode Island and on Netflix WI.

male host clubs are places where women pay money to sit in a bar and have their host talk and flirt with them. they mark up the alcohol substantially and the hosts get a % of the profits from alcohol sales. so their job basically consists of pretending to be in love with their clients and drinking outrageous quantities of alcohol.

it's based mainly around an owner/host named issei who is extremely successful.

they interview several of his clients and some of his coworkers.

Watched it last night based on your rec and it blew me away. That said I must have been mentally dyslexic when reading your description above (sort of substituting woman and men above and changing host to hostess in my feeble mind). I'm familiar with some top section players at Commerce who go to Hostess clubs in the LA area (message to gf, I haven't gone along) and was flipped out by the role reversals.

Other thing that surprised me was that the typical "profession" of the customers and the reasons why they went. Do say BS on the subtitles regarding costs of the various bottles. An evening out can't possibly be that expensive even converted to the now weak American dollar.

So are hostess clubs in LA the same basic idea as host clubs in Japan?

The idea kind of baffles me. I could see it if were just gigantically socially awkward but had a lot of dough, but as I understand it pretty normal and possibly even cool people go to them.

If you liked Street Fight, Brick City is a mini series (5 fifty minute long episodes) that is basically a sequel.

It follows Cory Booker as well a few members of the community for like a 6 month period.
