lol, if Antichrist turns you on you should probably seek help. I've seen it before but I watched it again the other night when it was brought up in the "movies for 1st dates" thread (lol). Pretty damn brutal.

parks was pretty goddamn amazing.

really didn't feel like a kevin smith film which is a cool turn for his direction ability.

Red State +1

Whether or not you liked the actual story you can still appreciate the way the movie was directed/executed.

Can we keep the Breaking Bad discussion out of this thread? There's already threads in OOTV for that purpose and some of us are working our way through the show on Netflix. I'm only at the end of Season 2 so hearing anything about later seasons, even in the form of vague questions/answers, is a bit unsettling.

This is the recommendation thread, and having spoilers in it pretty much defeats that purpose. This obviously goes for all shows/movies, not just BB.

So far enjoying walking dead. Too bad they could only muster 6 episodes in season one. I really wish they could come up with some of the older HBO stuff(the wire). Some sort of discounted rate for finished seasons seems feasible. Oh well.

Just watched Valhalla Rising. Same director as Drive. It's a brutally violent movie about vikings. It's pretty awesome. If you don't mind somewhat artsy, sparse dialogue, lots of slow motion kind of stuff. It can be slow at times, but also super intense.

not that it's a huge deal but writing stuff like this sort of ruins it for people watching it right?

red State wasn't bad and I am usually not one for indie low budget films, but since it was SMith, I wanted to watch it.

liked the ending. the cult sent me on tilt.

A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures 3 stars, documentary (mockumentary?) about a loser-ish guy in his 30's trying to interview all his exes about why they dumped him and what he needs to improve upon. I had a hard time believing quite a few things weren't staged, but had some laughs. Lots of graphic nudity towards the hour mark.

Spoiler:
Too bad it's him getting whipped by a mistress in the dick, though

The Architecture of Doom

In German with subtitles, darkly poetic, the film meanders through the Nazi rally as performance art, Hitler's obsession with artistic expression that reinforced Aryan Mythology, reaction against the chaos of abstraction, auguries of doom & perversion in modern art, the physician as biological warrior against the onslaught of racial impurity and genetic inferiority, and a profusion of examples from Hitler's many art exhibits before settling into various discussions of architecture in the Third Reich, the seige of Leningrad, and the Final Solution.

It also said Hitler and Albrecht Speer designed Nazi arenas on the "Ruins Principle," which dictated that they be constructed in such a way as to fall into picturesque ruins in the distant future.

Fascinating stuff.

Documentary about pinball. Decent watch if you were ever into playing pinball. Very high geek factor in competative pinball, many of the players make Star Trek fanatics look downright cool by comparison.

I also posted about it to subtly brag that I've played in the biggest tournament a few times, Pinburgh. I've played with many of the guys that are in the documentary and even won a game in the playoffs against the 7th best pinball player on the planet.

Good flick, I played pretty seriously for a few years and shat bricks when I saw a buddy I met at PAPA featured in it when he was much much nerdier.

William S. Burroughs: A Man Within

Concentrates more on Burroughs as a man than as a writer. Interviews with Iggy Pop, John Waters, Jello Biafra, Patti Smith singing lullabyes, gun collections and weapons dealers, archival footage of Burroughs readings and interviews, and the story of how he shot his wife in the head in Mexico.
