Bobby Robson: More Than a Manager - perfect 99 minutes, utterly enjoyable on England manager/national treasure/mensch Sir Bobby Robson. What makes it is Robson's personality, the prototypical boy made good with no airs and graces, this shines through and leads to a superstar cast of interviewees (Ronaldo 9, Guardiola, Sir Alex Ferguson etc.) who you feel agreed to contribute out of love for Sir Bobby more than anything else. It is too insubstantial to classify as great but ideal for the mildly inebriated viewer looking for something easy (not sure a non soccer fan would enjoy it tho).

I like Top Chef a lot more because you get to know some of the personalities on the show more. Final Table is okay, but I'm constantly asking myself "who's that again?" Only a few episodes in and it's alright, but think that there are some different storylines that they can do better.

Finally finished haunting of hill house. I was kinda bored with it after second episode and stopped awhile back, but gave it some more because people seemed to like it. Glad I did, 3rd ep really picked up and I binged the rest of it. Hope they don't try and make a second season tho, that would just be terrible.

Also, Dumplin is not very good, and I say that as someone who is a sucker for the genre.

I don't care about personalities in a cooking competition show, only the quality of the food, which is why I prefer Final Table over Top Chef.

There are too many gimmicky challenges in Top Chef and the challengers are simply not skilled enough.

My all time favorite is still the original Japanese Iron Chef. I wish they could revive that except with current chefs from all over the world.

Watched 'The American Meme'.

It's initially infuriating to see people with absolutely no talent raking in millions of dollars for being attention whores on social media while people making a positive contribution to society live paycheck to paycheck.

But the fact that their net worth and self-worth are derived from the likes of other human beings means that their entire life will be spent chasing the dragon of approval from a fickle populace with a short attention span. I feel a great rush of schadenfreude knowing that a middle-class nobody like me is happier than these overnight millionaire social media influencers who look as though they have everything when they really have nothing.

Bob, I disagree with your opinion. I dont want to go off topic in this thread so if you would like to debate this in a more fitting place then that would please me. If you dont care enough about this topic to debate it then that is ok as well and I wont press any further.

Roma: really liked it. It's pretty slow, entirely in black and white, and 99% Spanish/0.9% Mixtec, but it becomes really engrossing throughout. Make sure you're in the right mood, but it turns out Netflix finally bought themselves a great movie!

It is much less weird than the trailer makes it look.

For all you Staircase/Making a Murderer fans out there, I thought The Innocent Man was very good as well. Easy enough to binge at only 6 45 min eps.

Springsteen on Broadway released today. Very minimally directed and produced, matches the show very well.

watched the 1st couple episodes of The Fix Hosted by Jimmy Carr He has on a rotating cast of comedians to debate different topics. The 2 I've seen so far were on social media and Immigration. Both episodes have been LOL funny. Has a very Tough Crowd feel to it.

The Wife and I started watching Killing Eve on Hulu and it's very good. We got through the first 3 episodes yesterday and will probably pick it up again tonight. The woman that plays the assassain does an amazing job. She just exudes sociopath, she's got some serious crazy eyes.

It's like Dexter meets Catch Me If You Can.

Sunderland 'Til I Die

Eight ~40 minute episodes covering Sunderland A.F.C's 2017-2018 season.

Sunderland is a post-industrial city of 275,000 people in England's North East, voted heavily for Brexit, football crazy (their stadium seats 49,000). 2016-2017 saw The Black Cats relegated after nine years in the Premier League and we start the documentary with Sunderland looking to bounce back at the first opportunity.

The series starts off slowly, the first two episodes "setting the scene". Once it gets going it's excellent, the episodes feel much shorter than they are and it's extremely well edited.

Edit: the reviews are excellent but avoid them if you don't want to know how Sunderland's season went.

I got really hooked with that, partially because I really have no time to follow what goes on below the Prem and only had a faint idea of how the season generally went for them.

Spoiler:
I thought it was amusing how a particular low point in a season where they didn’t have any home wins for a year was when Jack Rodwell decided to stay on 75k/week. Nice work forgetting to put a relegation clause in that contract. Really felt for the Sunderland fans.

i binged Tidelands. it's a netflix-australia original. fantasy series about Sirens. everyone is pretty, and there are more than a few boobs. one of the stars is Chris Hemsworth's wife. its not awful if you're trying to get a quick fantasy fix.
