Churchill's Secret Agents produced with BBC. Pretty cool and good god seems like a hell of a lot of fun to be on.

The Vietnam War is now on Netflix. Didn't catch it on PBS so glad to get it here. 3 eps in, very good so far (and obviously it got excellent reviews)

I saw this and it looked interesting, but I'm not typically a reality show person, but thought since it was British maybe their reality shows aren't ****ty 10 minute episodes stretched into 22 minutes with fake climaxes before every commercial break and a recap after incase the mouth breathers forgot what was going on.

I have a strange love of immersive theatre, even though I've only been to a couple shows when I was in London. One of them was a Sherlock Holmes adventure where you have to solve a crime, wandering around through these elaborate sets, interviewing suspects, rifling through office drawers and things looking for clues. I was a terrible detective but it was a genuinely intense experience.

Churchill's Secret Agents reminded me of that, particularly the later episodes when the training becomes more simulation-style. I would pay thousands of dollars to go on a week long camp where you learn some skills and then deploy them on a practice mission like that.

The other thing that interested me was the selection process of candidates. Having had to hire pilots and judge them on various skills it was interesting to see how they weeded out the unfit personalities and the strategies they used to find out how people do under pressure.

Got sucked into Heavy Rescue 401, I imagine people who liked the deadliest catch format might like this too. They follow several crews that move the large wrecks off a busy road on the us canada border, mostly small family owned businesses.

Searched Hannah Gadsby to see if anyone had posted about her new comedy special and saw this:

I watched the trailer and it appeared quite funny in the beginning but then sunk when even the trailer got preachy. Does this represent the special because it seemed like the death of comedy?
So, that's a thing.

If you think SJWs are a real thing that exist and they're the scourge of society, you probably won't like this special, but otherwise, I went into this having no idea who she was (I think earlier I read a story about the new season of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee that linked to another story about Gadsby's special and how good it was and was like "oh, ok, I'll check it out") and was pretty blown away. The best comparison I can make is to Bo Burnham's special Make Happy, in the way that he tries to make his comedy special about something much bigger than just jokes and comedy itself - but she (and this is not to put Burnham down at all) accomplishes that way, way better than he does.

Saw them. Most of them were good. You can see that Jerry has chemistry with certain people and when he doesn't, he can't fake it to make a good episode out of it. I thought his episode with Tracy Morgan was pretty boring but he and Brian Regan get on great with each other.

Saw Gadsby's special. If you don't go in expecting a conventional comedy show where you're laughing every minute and have an open mind, it's a good show imo. The shows slowly transitions from straight stand-up, then mixing in some seriousness with the stand-up before going into full blown seriousness.

Kind of one of those things that you have to be in a mood for in advance since it gets really heavy towards the end.

Yeah, it gets pretty serious. Imo, she did it well and it took some guts. It is similar to a 1-person autobiographical performance on broadway, with humor in the first act, and drama in the second.

Started watching this, it's kinda soapy and often stretches credibility but pretty good turn-your-brain-off TV and the 30 minute episodes are nicely digestible in small chunks.

The Invitation was pretty good. It’s a tense thriller about a dinner party happening under suspicious circumstances. You’ll recognize the two leads by face, if not by name, and they’re good. Todd Packer (from the Office) gives a solid serious performance too. There are some holes and the dialogue is meh, but the premise is sound and I was pretty into trying to figure it all out. Wouldn’t watch again, but had fun the first time. Gf really liked it.

Ha of course the one time I crosspost I mix up two actors. Packer is not in The invitation, John Carroll Lynch is.

Better Call Saul season 3 is out on Netflix. If you haven't seen the first two seasons, they are fantastic ( about as good as say, Ray Donovan ).
Season 3 spends way too much pixel space on the mentally challenged older brother of the main character who should have been killed off at least a season ago. But other than this one cringe worthy character, the other characters are fantastic.
Jimmy McGill - fantastic character, fantastic story line
Kim - intriguing, dramatic
Trio of filmmakers - funny as hell and loveable
Cartel members - great story, dramatic
Mike something Trout - extraordinary character and very mysterious and interesting

Just watched Jim Jefferies new special.

Infinitely better than Freedumb.

Spoiler:
I'm convinced that I've heard that Pacino/Beatty story in some form. Did he use it in another special? Maybe I saw it on YouTube?

You can watch 1 hour for every dollar/month your subscription is and it doesn't affect your queued/shipped movies at all. Minuses are that you have to be running Windows and Internet Explorer, but the quality is great! I have a garbage laptop, but it looks the same as a DVD to me and it hasn't skipped/paused/hiccuped once so far.
Wow. Just wow. Strange to think back to a time before streaming.

Anyway... in the current spirit of the thread, two recommendations:

- If you like horror/suspense, watch "Don't Breathe". Seriously top notch.

- If you like crime/heist movies, and don't mind subtitles (unless you speak Spanish!), watch "Money Heist". Amazing. It's as captivating as Breaking Bad at it's best.
