I’m on an adventure doc kick and am going thru and seeing what Netflix has to offer. Before this I watched 180 Degrees South which I thought was spectacular. Any recs obv welcome!
Jimmy Chin's documentary about Alex Honnold free soloing El Cap comes out later this year and will be a can't miss. Chin obviously the same guy behind Meru.

Take Your Pills is ok but I didn't learn anything new except for how Adderall got its name.

Spoiler:
It's for ADD, get it? Adderall! Saved you an hour

I chuckled at Ritalin as well.

Big pharma is so very vile.

I loved that show when it first came on. I remember S1 being really good. (not sure if I watched the s2) Was the movie any good?

I enjoyed the first season of Occupied on Netflix (recommended watching) and was pleased to s2 drop this past week, but I really would have liked to have seen an s1 recap, which I guess the producers didn't bother to put together

Two episodes into Wild Wild Country. It’s completely different than I expected. Really digging it.

Wild Wild Country is my next binge, I think. Didn't know anything about it but the little bits I've read about the show make it a must watch!!

I just binge watched this. It's good. It's amazing to me that some people have the charisma to pull that off. I found it odd that I grew up in this era and don't recall ever seeing it on the news. I remember Jones Town, The Dividians, Heaven's Gate, and even Ruby Ridge but don't remember ever hearing about this.

I grew up in Portland, just said the same thing. How did I never hear about this

The part that bothered me:
Spoiler:

Granted they were weird and did some kooky **** but if a bunch of wackadoodles want to build a city in the middle of nowhere, on a 60,000 acre ranch, and **** on the lawn just leave them alone.

It felt like the neighbors and government ultimately drove them to doing the **** that got them in trouble. If everyone had minded their own ****ing business I'm not sure it escalates in the first place. It seems to be a common theme in cases like this. People want to be left alone to do weird ****, which should be fine. The neighbors and the government then get their panties in a bunch and **** everything up.

They had 60k ****ing acres. Why the **** are the neighbors riding their horses up there to spy on them? Leave them alone.

Tldr: Leave people the **** alone if they're not imposing on you.

That was during my high school and college days. That **** was on the national news all the time. It was interesting to get the details.

Agree with your opinion, decapn.

just finished ugly delicious. does anyone else think its problematic that these dudes from europe went down to mexico to jack recipes, technique, and ingredients from Mexican villagers and start a restaurant? And then a couple episodes later chang examines white people making fried chicken in USA #1 and confronts them on cultural appropriation?

^ I haven't given it much thought but cultural appropriation in this regard seems stupid to me.

The guy just sounds like he's trying to walk on eggshells. "Should I order the fried chicken, should I not order it?"

Eat what you want, cook what you want. **** everything else.

I was reluctant to watch Ugly Delicious, but I went ahead anyway. It definitely confirmed my opinion of Chang as a blowhard douche and mediocre chef.

No. Every restaurant in the history of the world has jacked recipes, techniques, and ideas from somewhere or someone else.

It was just an easy target for Chang's blowharding to make himself look more thoughtful than he is.

STill working my way through Wild Wild Country, but I'm getting a strong feeling as the series goes on that the woman being interviewed in the library is in some kind of institution, either a prison or mental health facility.

It was so well done. Seemingly unbiased.

That kind of cliffhanger feeling that you’re referencing is present in basically all the story lines. Hell of a watch in my opinion.

Terrace House fans, I recommend you also check out Ainori Love Wagon: Asian Journey, which is actually a return of the original predecessor to Terrace House. In this series, the participants travel throughout Asia in a pink "Love Wagon" with a goal scoring a partner and returning back to Japan as a couple.
