Def one of the better movies wrt the other netflix films.
It would have been okay for a fairly bland cookie-cutter sci-fi, but it fell apart toward the end. On balance just average, like a much less interesting Moon.

For people who watched The Staircase, random thing I noticed in the news: Connecticut state forensic lab director's testimony in 1989 murder case about a blood-stained towel turns out to be false: the substance on the towel was not blood

Quote:
The state’s star witness in 1989, Lee testified that there was blood on the bathroom towel. And in turn, that detail gave prosecutors the building blocks to suggest the suspects cleaned themselves off before darting from the scene, helping to explain why they still could have murdered 65-year-old Everett Carr without tracking blood into their car.

But there was just one problem with that theory: The stain on the towel was not blood. It hadn’t even been tested in the laboratory.
The guy who ran the Connecticut forensic lab in 1989 is the blood expert who worked for Peterson's defense. I always thought that guy seemed like a clown on the show from how certain he tried to act about his conclusions based on spotty evidence (though that's probably more of an issue with expert witnesses in general than him specifically).

Halfway through Jessica Jones S3, starts out slow and I FFd quite a bit of peoples relationships, its picking up but I still think it's not that great. Really heavy handed with "what being a hero means" dialog, maybe it was big in S2 and I dont remember, but it's so much in S3. The villain isnt that great but better than last years who I hated.

I'm not sure if the show was ever that good but was just elevated by David Tennants ability.

Totally off-topic of course but forensic "science" is really shady and has put a lot of people in jail that didn't deserve to be there.

I'm a fan of Black Mirror and sci-fi of the ilk of Ex Machina, but I struggled with I am Mother. It fails to spark into life after a promising opening, and is untimately a bit dull, predictable and entirely forgettable.

I disagree, I thought I am Mother was definitely worth watching. I think the standards for “hard” sci-fi tend to be really high by it’s nature and we end up being hard on some really good projects.

Yeah definitely not great and no where close to season 1's standards. I'm not really caring about any of the characters...and even some of the action scenes almost seem comical to me. I'm not recommending it, but will continue watching additional seasons nonetheless lol. Go me.

I think the very goodness of season 1 was more than just David Tennant, though he was pretty great.

There won't be any more seasons unless that new Disney service picks it up. But I am enjoying S3 a lot. It seems much better than most crap out there for my tastes but I guess I really like the character and the way Ritter plays her. Not much of a fan of the sidekick/friend/sister but the villain is good. I am only 3/4s through though but enjoying.

Thousands of Christians demand that Netflix cancel Amazon's Good Omens.

Amazon responds

Good Omens is such an overrated book. The series doesn't look like an improvement.

saw a bunch of ads for it on twitch and it looked awful

who cares what "thousands" of people did, you can find 1000 people to "sign" literally anything online. probably started as a 4chan troll anyway

The point is that those 20,000+ thought it was on Netflix rather than Amazon. The same group campaigned against "Sweet Jesus" ice cream.

Thought I was on reddit for a second and I was looking for the up-vote arrow.

Beats was good. Movie about a black kid with PTSD making phat beats in his bedroom and the loser security guard at his school trying to manage the kid's music career.

Very natural dialogue, interesting portrayal of anxiety, great acting by entirely black cast.

Couldn't agree more and it's not. Half the episodes are 60% good the other half suck. Same jokes over and over and over and over again.

ps I love Sheen and like the other dude. Still sucked.

Surprised I haven't seen anything about I Think You Should Leave. Absolutely hilarious sketch comedy show. Just six 15-minute long episodes. I'd recommend not binging, as some of the bits might get kind of repetitive in the kind of humor it is. I'd guess the brand of comedy isn't for everyone, but it's incredible to me.

Also, Happy Valley is pretty good. As are most British police/crime mystery series.

here to confirm Chef Show is very entertaining. Roy Choi is a breath of fresh air in the world of televised cooking shows. he's extremely good at what he does and humble at the same time. the dude seems like he just wants to teach folks how to cook.
