HBO through Amazon has a trial period and a subscription. Well worth it, but might want to do a discount double-check.

Yeah, prime includes a lot of hbo series. It's not a trial basis and it's not something you have to pay extra for. But not all series are available (don't think it includes GoT), and it's coming to an end sometime in 2018.

You can also pay for HBO through prime, which will give you access to the rest of their shows.

HBO shows that are free on Prime that I need to watch include:
Sopranos
The Wire
Entourage
Boardwalk Empire

If these aren't actually free and my wife has been paying extra this whole time, let me know!

Amazon makes it surprisingly hard* to see what is a paid subscription and isn't, but my CC had a $15 charge on 11/11 that led me to finding an Amazon order for HBO. I don't remember making it and would be shocked if my wife did, but we also had relatives in town who may have somehow accidentally did it as well. So binge time and calendar reminder to cancel in early December.

*It took me a good 5-10 minutes of clicking around to find the digital order after having found the CC charge.

Just checked and I see them saying "Included with Prime Membership".
So they are Free.

Also, don't mind the actual fee for one month for a chance to see all of Westworld plus GoT plus whatever else I can get to. In relative terms, that's a steal for that much content.

As pointed out, older HBO stuff is generally included with Prime, but the recently-aired GoT season 7 is not free.

Oh an older HBO show that is a must watch is Big Love. Give it a few episodes though as initially my bf didn't like it and then later absolutely loved it.

Just started watching it. I can't understand how it's legal to do that. It just seems like a recipe for disaster. He pulls over on the freeway to get a passing shot of a DUI involved in a high speed chase. Then as soon as police manage to stop the chase he runs up on them with a camera from behind.

Legal to film things on a camera? Do you hate freedom?

I guess we never really thought about how all that magic footage pops up on the news our who lives.

re: the show
I feel like the producers luckboxed that accident at the end of ep. 1. I don't think I would have discovered the show here in this thread. How many people watched all 8 episodes because of the end of the first one? It was "The Story of the Night" moment for the show to get picked up I bet.

I'm on EP. 7 and would have watched the entire season anyways because I'm into weird things anyways.

I wonder what cut of the show Zak and Steve got? They seem to have a stranglehold on the LA market. I just can't see them wanting to put themselves and their businesses out there unless they got paid.
No more gory than the stories you see on the evening news.

"What happened to Monday"

Had high hopes for this one after I stumbled upon it last night. Rapace does a great job with what she has to work with, but it really abandoned the bigger story in order to go for an action flick essentially. Shes a great action star, but why start out with a cool premise then 30 minutes later just go for a sci-fi action flick? The score was bad...a mix of Inceptions big drums and Equilibrium perhaps? Just a fairly non-sensical movie for the most part. Willem Dafoe was criminally under used to the point of why was he even there....

Anyway, Netflix sucks. I can rarely find anything new and good on there. And their movies besides War Machine have been lackluster.

I was bored to tears by Shot In the Dark and almost gave up before the end of E1. Glad I didn't. Hooked from there on out.

Oh yeah, forgot this one

"The Samaritan" -Sam Jackson.

This movie is a little old at this point but it wasn't a wide release film in 2012 and I just noticed it. Not an amazingly interesting premise. Nothing new or flashy but there was surprisingly a lot of well written long dialogue scenes that were quite enjoyable. Sammy is getting a bit older, so I try and take any opportunity I can to relish his acting chops. This film is a showcase to his ability and gives him and young actress Ruth Negga all kinds of time to actually "act". I actually enjoyed it and its only like an hour and a half so 4-5 good well written realistic scenes of dialogue capped by of course a shootout at the end. Worth a watch. Ruth Negga is trending upward and I guess this was the start of her getting noticed.

Finished the Punisher on Netflix. I enjoyed Daredevil, but all you need to know from Daredevil, is that The Punisher was born when the entire family of Frank Castle was murdered by drug runners.

Beyond that, the Punisher stands alone, and is quite well done imo.

It treats a very complicated subject matter of post war syndrome with careful respect and I think a veteran would appreciate (I have never served).

It also features the massive amounts of bloody violence that fans of the original comic books would expect.

I loved Nightcrawler and will definitely give Shot in the Dark a shot.

The Night Of lost the thread a little midway once the jail stuff started, as people have mentioned. I'd classify it as an interesting failure with some worthwhile elements, like Turturro's performance.
