There is a marginally interesting National Geographic series called "Lockdown" that I don't think has been recommended which is available. It goes inside maximum security-type prisons and focuses on certain inmates and situations. It gets somewhat repetitive in the same sort of way the naughtiness on COPS does, but there are some pretty interesting insights into prison hierarchy, gangs, layout, accumulation of power, etc., so if this sort of thing interests you, give it a look.

yes prisons fascinate me, most of those Lockdowns are pretty good, some veer too much into zomg what r we gonna do with these animals territory. also just watched one on the aryan nation prison gang that was pretty badass.

The Wild wonderfull whites of west virginia, The Cove, Stolen, The Dentist, The Blob, Imprint. Also a movie called The Bridge is good but it's only available on dvd.

For Louis CK fans, the documentary Maxed Out, which is about the absurdity of the credit scheme prior to the 2008 crash, has probably 10-15 min of Louis doing one of his sets interspersed throughout.

Sorry for the laziness, as I haven't read the entire thread. However, has there been any explanation as to why the "Watch Instantly" selection is so limited? Has Netflix made an official announcement about it? Why are the good movies, the ones you actually would like to watch, absent?

It has been discussed in the thread, and it has to due with "licensing windows." Content is made available through some outlets earlier than others. Something like: theatrical release, in-flight entertainment, premium cable, DVDs, on-demand. Netflix streaming content is in the on-demand window.

WTF? How could you not find movies that you want to watch on Watch Instantly? I have 48 movies on my Watch Instantly queue, and that doesn't include any movies I have seen before. WI is the nuts, especially when you factor in the selection of TV series

WI is great, but it's still only about 20% of the netflix library.

It's only very likely going to get better for us as well on Netflix.

The premium cable or Pay TV window (when HBO premieres a theatrical release) is not currently a world Netflix plays in. So we wait for the title to be released on Netflix sometime after it has premiered on HBO.

But the time we have to wait has already begun to shrink - in Netflix's most recent deal to distribute Epix cable channel titles (e.g. Iron Man, Star Trek that we saw pop up recently) - the wait is only 90 days after it airs on Epix.

Netflix also announced they are looking to purchase the rights to current season TV series. Unlikely this will happen in the next 6 months, but depending on the negotiation and economic climate, could be within the year...

I will second the Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. Its a documentary about a messed up clan of modern hillbillies that pretty much just like to do drugs, fight and dance. I enjoyed taking a look into their lives, and need to find some similar flicks.

they were putting season 2 (or maybe it was 3) of heroes on watch instantly like the day after they originally aired a couple years ago in the us.

Last edited by Phildo; 12-08-2010 at 04:39 PM. Reason: too bad the show became unwatchable after season 1

^^ movie name please..more random thoughts..Just got done watching Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, much thanks to those that recommended it. South of the Border is great, must see for anyone the least bit politically interested. No one watch Human Centipede, gratuitous for the sake of gratuity, not a damn thing redeeming about it. LOL at all the youngins that haven't seen The Shining.
