I was also surprised that Michele's brother was alive and well on the Offshore and she was tricked. I liked that Ezequiel understood and let her live. Fernando was brutal. Joanna just wasn't a killer, she would steal and do what she needed to do Inland and killing the boy was an accident. She is an Inland at heart.

Them not being able to pro create is pretty crazy spin on the Offshore too.
Spoiler:
I'm yet to be convinced Michele's brother is actually alive. What I meant about Joana is that this wasn't some random guy she had the chance to kill - it's someone who apparently traumatized her by nearly raping/killing her as far as I could gather. I'm also confused about what the impact is if she pushes the button - what Ezequiel had in mind for her. And pretty much lol at the murdered guy's wife believing Aline in any way. Maybe she should try telling them the guy was allergic to silver.

watched all of 3% yesterday

Spoiler:
enjoyed fernando getting kicked out by his own test, he was annoying. saw it as soon as he said he wanted to leave. ezequials motivations are interesting, Im also not convinced that micheles brother is actually alive but if he was playing her to get information why does he let her go through anyway?

one leak in the process seems to be not checking behind peoples ears for false registration scars. or maybe they just dont care and that doesnt impact "merit"

didnt anticipate that joana was being tested by the fake dad even though you should should have suspected anything could be a test. also not sure why she didnt push the button

loled at the dead guys wife believing aline to any degree. "i didnt do it you gotta believe me!" is the oldest defense in the book. dont think anything actually came from that, maybe next season she returns

It seems at least with Ezequiel, he doesn't give a **** how you got there or how you pass a test, he likes that people will try and push into the kingdom with force.

Also, they don't have lie detector tests? They just look into the eyes of a person to see if they are lying or not? Maybe Ezequiel never believed Michelle from the questioning and wanted to know more.

Penny dreadful was great. One of my favorite series on Netflix, probably in top 3 with the killing and marco polo

Watched a 3 part doc on the Romanovs of Russia, called Rising of the Tsars. Once I warmed up to the hostess I really enjoyed it, most of the footage was of architecture/art from that time period and it was an interesting piece of history to learn about.

Highly recommend.

However, something was holding it back from being really good. Perhaps it was just difficult to suspend disbelief about the basic premise- an interstellar ship secretly launched in 1963 on a 100-year voyage.

I'm glad it was only six episodes long.

Spoiler:
I think Ezequiel basically is building some sort of super loyal to him army - didn't they say in one ep that he is basically the most important member of the offshore society? A lot of people seem out to get him, so he needs allies too. Maybe he's planning some sort of overthrow of the society; he must have known Rafael wasn't the real deal to let him through after he cheated to pass the cube test, so he's looking for people like Rafael/Michele/Joana who are strong, tough, committed to the cause, and will work with him because he let them through.

was thinking along those lines where he is fighting for himself. I liked that there was really no clear good vs bad sides in the show. ezequial being a long-term plant of "the cause" would be less interesting, but "the cause" being the actual antagonists would be cool

On some of the 3% spoilers

Spoiler:
I think everyone's read on the Fernando situation is wrong. They knew he was close to Michele and likely knew her situation. He knew Michele was missing and was going to make it a big deal where she went. So they lied to him to say she was eliminated for him to drop the subject. He then decided to leave which really pissed Ezequiel off. So as he is leaving, instead of letting him think it is his own choice, they make him think he has been eliminated by a 'test' based on Michele quitting.

Thanks for "The Magicians" recommendation. Started a little slower but kept picking up. It's like Harry Potter Hogwarts University Rated R edition.

Also, Black Mirror pretty decent.

Watched 3% in 1 day earlier this week and absolutely loved it. Thought it had a good mix of resolutions for season 1 while still leaving some mysteries and settng up for a great season 2.

After that I watched the OA b/c of this thread, but I guess I'm the only one who thought it turned ridiculous after a great set up

Spoiler:
I guess I'm not as convinced of the transformative powers of interpretive dance as the rest of OOT.

Did you finish the season?

Spoiler:
They are obviously playing with the audience - whether we believe this or not. And in the end, it seems like it all might be just in her head... Or might not be. And does it matter? Anyway, all season I was hoping they would go there and they did, so I'm personally very satisfied.

I can understand if people didn't like the end, but there was some excellent stuff in the episodes leading up to that point.

Spoiler:
Not sure what to think of the school shooting scene but I really liked everything else about the season.

What was the FBI guy doing in her house late at night? They were out of town so there was no reason for him to be there.
