Noticed Spotlight is also on there. This won best picture last year. Surprised it's on Netflix already. Got some movies to watch tonight! Haven't seen either of these.

Thanks for reminding me. I started watching it on a plane and stopped a few minutes into it because I figured it was too good to watch on a plane.

Bloodline season 1 was great, season 2 is good/worth watching, not as good as 1 though.

I thought season 2 was much better. I'm obviously in the minority.

Of course, The Big Short and Spotlight are not on the German Netflix yet. I've seen and loved/liked both but surely the OV of The Big Short should make rewatching worthwhile. Is there any rule of thumb for when it'll be extended to Eurotrash?

If Orange is the New Black meets Oz sounds like something that would appeal to you, check out Wentworth.

I'm 6/8 in, and after about half the episodes I need to go back and read a synopsis to figure out who the hell everyone was.

I'm enjoying it, but they weave so many storylines together and don't really always give you context until later. That or getting old has left me incapable of figuring things out without being spoonfed by writers.

they're totally different are you in the mood for humor or something really heavy?

both are great but very dissimilar so decision should be easy to make based on your mood.

I know the Big Short is humorous, but the overall content is pretty heavy isn't it? I mean, not raping little boys heavy, but heavy nonetheless.

I really enjoyed Doubt, and I am a journalism junkie so I think I'll probably go with Spotlight.

I wouldn't say the Big Short is humorous. I feel like I have a good handle on all the intricacies behind the whole housing crises mess - the mechanics behind credit default swaps, who made money how, and the divers behind it, however for someone that does't get it, I don't see how they will not be completely lost in the plot of this movie. They tried to explain it in s couple scenes - girl in the bathtub, Anthony Bourdain, Selena Gomez - but they fail miserably, and if you were lost as a viewer you remained lost.

i didn't find it that heavy, they certainly weren't going for a serious or heavy tone to the film and it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay lighter than spotlight.

however it's pretty academic as u should watch both so just a matter of which order.

or you could choose the pro move and make it a double feature!

Loved the Big Short. Thought it explained things very well, was very funny, and left a pretty serious message by the end about the financial system.

That said, in response to the which movie question, completely agree w/ RBK about the movies being completely different and should be chosen based on mood.

Anyone watch the new Netflix series called Stranger Things? Looks interesting from the trailer. Stars Winona Ryder. Might give it a watch later.

Didn't read this article in fear of spoilers but it calls it one of the best Netflix series to drop in a long time. Looks like it was just released yesterday

Looks like it should be good and he calls it a mixture of Spielberg and King

I'm gonna give it a try

I skimmed article but he did say he would avoid spoilers because he didn't wanna give things away

Has a real 80s feel to it which I love. So far I'm loving it. Trying to space it out a little rather than binge the whole thing in 2 days.
