Last 2 posts are interesting. Enjoyed the first 2 seasons but figured the series couldn't go anywhere but down. Earlier posts confirmed that, but now multiple people are saying 3 and 4 are good, guess I'll give it a go.

We had a similar feeling after the end of S2, but I really like the feel of S3 so far

Sometimes stuff is so bad, it has value. I lasted about 25 minutes for the Aziz Ansari special. Lol, it was so pathetically bad, I started to enjoy it. Ha. Dude has a good look and is comfortable on stage, but his material is just so so awful. Like epic terrible. If not for his name, and it being at Madison Square Garden, it would have been silence after every joke. In a small club that material gets heckled, no doubt. The good news is it makes one appreciate the genuinely funny guys and gals out there these days. And there are a bunch of them.

Yep, I like Aziz but that was horrid.

His comedy has clearly been trending towards a more mature and philosophical angle though, long gone are the days of Raaaaaaaaaandy. It seems he isn't really satisfied by getting laughs from R Kelly pee jokes anymore, even though his first stand up was hilarious. His material definitely has a preachy vibe now, which I can certainly see turning off a lot people.

It couldn't possibly be more preachy than his turn at the Franco roast. We get it worst character on P&R, you don't like offensive jokes. Maybe don't go to a roast next time you ****ing dickhead

This. You really missed the point if you thought Aziz said what he did because he doesn't like offensive jokes.

I thought Aziz's special was fine. It actually had some of his best material, but it wasn't as well delivered as Buried Alive. I like that he's digging a bit deeper and talking about more personal stuff. But he is still delivering it as a character. All of his specials have moments where it seems like Aziz-the-person talking, but usually it's Aziz-the-performer performing. He's 4 specials deep, so I've gotten used to it.

i'm not gonna **** with any aziz specials.

any comedian that does test groups on his jokes to see which ones hit the average person better is ****ing repulsive to me. Analytics......? in comedy? tfo.

I know he works hard and has skill and some craft but i could never get over that.

agree with the aziz sucked sentiment. i turned it off shortly after he started using material i came up with 4 years ago when asked why i don't facebook. people didn't seem to appreciate my thoughtful statement/joke.

made it further with aziz then i did with that ralphie may. the guy is so ****ing fat it's a distraction. i'd almost rather watch honey boo-boo's mom on that stage.

been watching spartacus lately. i'm almost through season one. decent so far.

also saw some documentary called 'the life of ryan' about some soccer player. it's pretty solid.

ugh...

calling dr spaceman. what would carlin/kennison say to this?

kennison: "so... i hear comedians are using analytics these days to determine what's funny. you know what would be funny? IF YOU ****ING HUNG YOURSELF WITH THE MICROPHONE CORD, RIGHT NOW, YOU ****ING HACK."

ok, so now we see why i'm not a comedian. dr spaceman make this funny, good sir.

Using analytics isn't too different from playing small clubs for a month to test out new material, it just sounds more douchey.

Yea agree with this, that doesn't bother me at all. What does bother me is that over time Aziz's routine just simply got ****tier. His earlier stuff he has the feel of like an ordinary nerd that has a funny/real perspective. I identify with and found hilarious a lot of his bits, especially the social stuff (picking up girls, stuff with texting, etc.). His newer stuff now (last special and this one) just seems sooo rehearsed and gimmicky. It feels a lot more like a show pre-crafted by himself in a hotel room rather than a conversation with the audience, which is what I believe stand-up should really be about.
