Loving House of Cards - 5 episodes in.

Anyone else notice that it appears that the original BBC version of "House of Cards" is also on WI? Anyone watch it and does it match the quality of the original?

Also watched "Lars and the Real Girl" Top notch acting in that one through the whole cast and especially Ryan Gosling. Outstanding.

I watched the original a few weeks ago... it was okay, but I wasn't that impressed. Maybe it would be better if I were more familiar with British politics or something. The 13 episodes of the US version hasn't made it the point that the UK did in the first series (3 episodes), so, needless to say, the American version has much deeper character development - particularly Russo and Ms. Underwood, who are barely developed whatsoever in the British series.

I haven't seen the US version yet but I watched the British one. It's definitely in a British style and maybe a little hard to follow and appreciate unless you understand British politics. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really stand out either. I decided to stop after the first season and wait for the US one.

So, basically the U.S. is full of unoriginal people and we just copy all British television?

There are still really original people writing scripts for movies and TV, but those controlling the money have become very risk averse. They want the guarantee (or at least the illusion of one) that comes with a sequel or remake. The spec script market has gone to **** as the studios have stopped even looking for original projects.

The only way something like, say, "Inception" gets bankrolled is if a huge star signs on to do it with a director coming off a monster hit. Without that, the movie never has a chance.

Transformers 7 can get greenlit, but the director basically has to beg to do Inception. What a ****ing joke, and it will only get worse.

Watched a few things recently:

Primer - saw it based off of the recommendations in this thread. It was like a time travel film for nerds. Have yet to really attempt to try to untie the knots to see if it makes sense. Still very confused. It's also quite short (~75 mins) so not a huge investment in time if you're on the fence.

Bernie - excellent. Somehow has only gotten one mention in this thread, and only in passing. Faux documentary / dark comedy based on a true story.

Punching the Clown - haven't seen this mentioned once. Had it in my queue for a long time and am glad I finally watched it. Low budget film centered around a stand-up comic and the various life beats he gets dealt in his attempts to make it in L.A. There were a few legit lol moments.

Margin Call - thought it was just OK, probably had my expectations set too high. Mostly I kept waiting for something to happen that never did, so ended up a bit wanting.

Headhunters (subtitles) - this has been mentioned, and is very good. Co-stars Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones. Recommend.

Finished 1st Season of House of Cards. Very, very solid.

Also watched Dead Snow (highly recommend if you like zombie/horrors).

I think (but I'm not positive), that people register on their countries version of Netflix and then change the country in the settings. Take a look on google, I am pretty sure I came across an article on how to do it.

I think he's saying they can't process the payment overseas.

One way to get around it is buy a prepaid American card with a year's worth or so on eBay and register that.

I finally got around to watching Exit Through the Gift Shop. Had it in my queue since it was first mentioned itt a long while ago.

Anyway, I am not a big documentary guy, nor am I big into art, but this was captivating. It has a very fast pace and was just a super interesting subject matter. 5 stars, everyone who hasn't seen it should watch it. Great doc.

I just have the 2 seasons available.

Just received this as a gift and really enjoy it. House Of Cards is very good and got caught up on Mad Men. Does anyone know when the 5th season will be available?
