male host clubs are places where women pay money to sit in a bar and have their host talk and flirt with them. they mark up the alcohol substantially and the hosts get a % of the profits from alcohol sales. so their job basically consists of pretending to be in love with their clients and drinking outrageous quantities of alcohol.
it's based mainly around an owner/host named issei who is extremely successful.
they interview several of his clients and some of his coworkers.
Watched it last night based on your rec and it blew me away. That said I must have been mentally dyslexic when reading your description above (sort of substituting woman and men above and changing host to hostess in my feeble mind). I'm familiar with some top section players at Commerce who go to Hostess clubs in the LA area (message to gf, I haven't gone along) and was flipped out by the role reversals.
Other thing that surprised me was that the typical "profession" of the customers and the reasons why they went. Do say BS on the subtitles regarding costs of the various bottles. An evening out can't possibly be that expensive even converted to the now weak American dollar.
