S1 of Severance started slowly for me - I thought, "Oh, checking all the 'Prestige TV boxes, yawn' - and then really picked up.

Beef on Netflix was the opposite: really sputtered as it went on.

Haven't finished Beef yet, on episode 7, it's decent and has a good soundtrack at the end of episodes that inspired be to re-sub to my Amazon music unlimited account. lol

What's the consensus on You?

I'm about halfway thru S3 and they just announced S5 will be the last. I'll see it out just b/c I'm a sucker for this type of series, but seems like S3 (and I'm guessing S4) are just more of the same stuff and lesser quality than previous seasons. This should have been a 1 or maybe 2 season show at most imo.

I just finished season 4. I thought season 3 was great. I liked how it didn't take itself serious. Season 4 didn't follow the same pattern.

My ranking S1=S3, S2, S4

My thoughts of Joe in season 4 (with season 4 spoilers and comment on the end):

Spoiler:
The last half's surprise change of direction is a bit of a shock and a large change to the character. Esp things like the killing of the male student and framing the girl student at the end.

I thought season 4 was good. 2nd half better than the first. I did really like season 3 though because of the side couple and Love is smoking hot in general, but more so in S3. I think the big moments are crazy and entertaining enough to power through the weaker stuff. Glad to see it end when it does.

S4 was a completely ineffective caricatural comical portrait of the rich and (socia-media) influential while attempting to integrate a criminal story a la Agatha Christie ; it simply does not work. That said, I really did enjoy the first 2 seasons.

Fossilkid, not an all-time great series, but I have been enjoying the Spanish show Entrevias that you might want to give a shot with your gf ; again, nothing spectacular, and I would not recommend it generally (as it more of an unassuming Novela type of series, a little like a myriad of Colombia ones, but given that you speak the language and all ).

Thanks Buddy, your rec of La Valla was on point, so I'll give this one a shot as well.

Great, but disclaimer : this is nowhere near the quality of La Valla, but just a Spanish series that I thought that you and your gf would enjoy because of... well, Spanish!

Speaking of Spanish series, have you watched Vis-a-Vis? A much better, imho, version of heroic feminism - or whatever - than La Casa de Papel offers???

Tried to watch the first season with my wife but it was unbearable. Really dumb show with annoying characters. No way I could watch any more than about half of S1[

For the record, season 1 was a Lifetime original, then Netflix picked it up for season 2 and beyond.

Jury Duty is pretty decent on Freevee, 4 episodes out now, then 2 per week, total of 8.

We actually haven't been watching much Spanish language content lately. My now wife is focused on improving her English (which is coming along fairly well), so that's been our focus.

Vis-a-Vis does look quite good, might have to make an exception.

I loved the first season of You but it lost its charm very quickly. I think I finished S2 or S3 but idk and I don't care to go back to it.

Started Beef not expecting much but I like it a lot after 2 episodes.

Also did a bit of a Matt Damon journey, starting with his new movie Air in theatres now. Good but not great. Then I rewatched The Martian which is excellent. Finally, I'm going through the Bourne movies. First two were quite good... better than I expected. Third was still OK. Fourth was very confusing. Where did Matt Damon go? From what I read, the final called Jason Bourne sucks. I'll probably still watch it to finish the series, though.

Beef

Spoiler:
Holy **** did that show get dark. I know it’s a dark comedy but it went really far in the former!! Great series overall! And the acting was phenomenal!!

Damnnnnn Beef is good. Over the years I've noticed that series with shorter episodes lend themselves to binging far more than ones with 45-60ish minute eps. I finished Beef in less than 24 hours and yeah, damn it's good.

Same, only made about halfway through first ep and determined I had no interest.

I kinda felt the same early on in Beef, actually. I was bored and not into it for maybe about 1 or 1.5 episodes but then it hooked me hard. I might've even given up on it, too, but was using it as background entertainment while I messed around on my phone. That's just my experience though and if y'all wanna be vegetarians that's up to you.

I was into it within 5 minutes but knew that if it stayed like that, it would become grating but probably still fun. It evolved rather quickly and I loved it!

I did not like Beef until the end of ep1. The ending got me to the next episode which was better than the 1st one but with a similarly awesome ending.

Yep, that's worth noting. Every single episode features a tremendous ending.

Reminds me a lot of another series with short episodes with incredible endings, which I also finished in one night: Million Yen Women. One of my favorites of alltime... it's a quick series. 1 season 12 episodes 20ish minutes per ep. Watched it 3x, maybe 4.
