What about the interfaces? All pretty much the same? / Any advantages to using a particular device? / If you had all of the above devices, which would you use?
Is there any advantage to using Blockbuster for Blu-Ray/DVD service?
Ty.
I have the original Roku fed into an older 720p plasma and an LG BD390 blu-ray player fed into a 1080p LCD. Both are great for Netlix streaming (although I suspect you need decent cable Internet as opposed to DSL).
The LG also plays:
- Netflix streaming as mentioned.
- most of my computer media (although the interface is a bit of a PITA).
- a slimmed down U-Tube which turned out to be very usable
- Vudu HD streaming. The movies cost about $5 but they have a 99 cent special that is often very good.
- Cinema Now (another movie streaming service that has mostly second tier movies).
I was going to link to the LG on Amazon but somehow the price has gone way up (I thought it was a steal at the $240 I paid with free shipping!) so I'm too annoyed to promote it. The LG appeared to be better than the equivalent Samsung player when I researched it at the time on the AVS forums. Netflix's home page also lists some new devices not available a few months ago (like the Wii).
The Roku has access to Amazon movie rentals and I added MLB.com which worked great (even in beta). They also have new stuff like Pandora which I haven't activated yet.
If either the Roku or LG could work with perhaps a slimmed down version of iTunes then you would have the ultimate device!
