I tried watching the first one and got through about 10 minutes before turning it off. Maybe they get better, I dunno.

I watched the entire first one, audio is terrible, I found it hard to follow which kids were which, and found it terribly boring, took all the others off my queue.

Anyway, I recently saw an ep or two of the Cosby Show to see how it had aged and I'm still not a fan - as a general portrait of a successful black family it does well, but as a sitcom (presumably the reason one would watch) I find it very meh. It's basically just Cosby with cute/parental interactions with various members of his fake family.

I don't mind people saying they don't like something, it allows me to temper my expectations a bit. They don't need to qualify it further although it's helpful if they do.

Regarding 80s TV and SNL, it's kind of a shame that they don't seem to have any of those seasons available. Maybe I'm remembering it more fondly because it's the SNL of my youth but I thought that some of the non-Lorne Michael years both with and post Eddie Murphy were really solid. The cast with like Christopher Guest, Anthony Michael Hall, Julia Louise Dreyfus, Bill Crystal, Dana Carvey, Jim Belushi et al. Would be curious to see how those eps have aged.

i grew up when the cosby show was on too but i'm 6 years younger than you. cosby was on when i was like 5-11 and i thought it was hilarious (and i probably watched it in syndication for a couple years after it ended). cheers didn't appeal to me. it skews older.

I did a report in 8th grade on Cheers when it ended, I think I taped part of the finale and cut it up and brought it in. I'm sure it was a hilarious topic choice for a 13 year old kid from the teacher's point of view.

Watched Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year last night and thought it was terrific. Its branded as a comedy but its a mix between comedy and drama. Thought it was very entertaining, sort of like a foreign office space but less emphasis on pure comedy. ill give it a 8/10

They have Charlie Sheen in "The Chase" for those who like winning... For a movie from 1994 they do a pretty good job of ripping on the media, kinda funny overall not bad to throw on when nothing else catches ur eye

Just watched "My Kid Could Paint That" a very good documentary about a 4 year old who started making abstract art that was sold in galleries. Touches on the meaning of art, the culture surrounding modern art, etc.

A ton of Fox shows are expiring April 1. If you want to watch some of my faves such as Firefly and 24 they won't be available after that. Anyone know why this is? Did netflix's contract with Fox expire or something?

One of my favorite films of the last few years just released on WI. Half Nelson with Ryan Gosling is a really good film about a HS teacher who is addicted to crack.

Also I'm sure most people have seen it but Sling Blade was also added recently.

Yeah, come to think of it...both shows were kind of before my time. I'll always think the Cosby is special, maybe just weird nostalgia. I have no doubt that Cheers is hands-down a better show all-around, but I think its understandable that Bill Cosby making faces>>bar humor for someone who was too young to get more sophisticated humor at the time.

Ha, wow. Never heard of this film but I'm almost positive I'd like it so I'll add it to my queue for this weekend. Thanks for the recommendation.

BTW, sorry for the Cosby derail, it was OT and I didn't mean to disparage the show too badly as it's clearly better than 90%+ of long-running sitcoms. I just thought of Cheers as GOAT at the time and was annoyed it wasn't getting any press while Cosby got all the headlines.

im sure first 48 has been mentioned in here but here's a protip for those who aren't just plowing through all the episodes like me. watch the episodes with only one case taking up the whole episode, usually these are more interesting because they are harder to solve and tend to be weirder than the usual situation where a druggie shoots a druggie in front of 30 people in the projects and its just a matter of getting one of those 30 people to step forward and talk.

AFAIK they have a contract with certain shows/broadcasting places (fox etc) and when that runs out the show comes off. So for example stuff will leave instant and then come back too though. When it leaves if you go on the website underneath your WI is an area that says "Saved". Those are ones that used to be on WI and when they return they auto put it back in. Most likely it won't be leaving, it'll expire and come right back given how big of a network fox is.

I don't get what you're saying here? Watch an episode where they do real police work instead of a bunch of people not snitching? How would we know the difference?

If you watch the first 48 and don't enjoy the snitching then you fail at watching the first 48.

Ah ok, that makes sense. Do they have a divider in the details? Like on some shows they have two seperate parts to the episode and it has a / in between them.

I don't the point of this post. I think most people enjoy it because they want to see how cops do the forensic work etc and how they deduce the possibilities and stuff like that. Someone snitching isn't exciting or entertaining.

Watching people effectively hang themselves or their friends for crimes they would have a very good chance of escaping conviction of if they kept their mouthes shut is very entertaining to me.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy the detective work/ forensics aspect of the show too, but I have LMAO plenty of times at people confessing when they didn't have to.

The titles have a slash in between two names if it is in two parts. I highly recommend "Body of Evidrence" S10, especially if you watch Dexter.

I think the stupidity of people implicating themselves and people they are initially trying to cover for is amusing but a lot of the homicides follow this general format.

1. Guy gets shot in public in front of multiple people by a person known to him. Police are on the scene within minutes of the death.
2. Victim has ID on him or the witnesses know him.
3. There is an immediately obvious motive such as drugs on the ground, and shell casings litter the area.
4. Police knock on doors and hand out flyers until someone calls and says its so and so.
5. Police pick up so and so and murder weapon is in his house/car/person.
6. Perp usually confesses, but either way it's game over.

I think some of the most interesting episodes are ones where they find bodies that are decomposing, or were dumped at a location other than the site of the murder, or where the evidence is entirely circumstantial and getting a confession is critical to the integrity of the case. Some of the justifiable homicides (there are more than I would have expected) are interesting too.

Watched 'Frozen' last night. I'm a sucker for the genre, but I'd recommend it to anyone willing to suspend disbelief enough to buy into the plot. Was pretty nailbiting in a few parts and one scene really stuck in my head. If you liked 'Open Water' at all, this is like a slighty poor-man's version of it in terms of acting/script, but still a damn good horror/thriller effort from the director considering the usual schlock that comes out.
