+1 on Squid Game, 3 epis in and basically sitting on it because I'm enjoying it so much. Big Alice in Borderland vibes

I binged it all in 1.5 days, which is pretty uncommon for me to like a series that much. Will probably rewatch in a month.

Hmm, saw the synopsis of Squid Game and thought it might be worth the watch, may check it out

Did find it hilarious that they recommended me the Schumacher documentary when his dominant period coincided with F1 becoming unwatchable

Somehow.... someway.... I was able to hold off seeing this season of Ted Lasso and not be spoiled. Finale on Friday so I can finally marathon it!! I’m oddly proud of myself lol

Also holding out on S2 of Ted Lasso. Nice to see it did well in the Emmys, winning 'Outstanding comedy series', 'Lead actor in a comedy series', 'Supporting actor in a comedy series', and 'Supporting actress in a comedy series'.

how do you inadvertently spoil a show like Ted Lasso? It's not like there is a mystery or anyone is going to die. There's not even a "will they wont they" dynamic, someone would have to go into detail and explain the entire plot, so it seems like it would be rather trivial to not allow that to happen.

another +1 on Squid Game. Haven't seen Alice in Borderland but it reminds me of UK Utopia meets a better version of Hunger Games.

another +1 on Squid Game. I'm 1.5 episodes in and can't wait to watch tonight. There was a scene in the first episode that I watched a few times because it was so awesome.

Alice in Borderland is basically Squid Game, but only the games part. Less plot, less backstory and compelling characters, more wild
Spoiler:
and at times, messed up
"games". Highly recommend watching at least the pilot because you will know very quickly if you like it. It has also been renewed for season 2.

Last edited by bsball8806; 09-21-2021 at 02:04 PM. Reason: There still is a plot and backstory, it just IMO isn't as well done as Squid Game. Still very good.

I'm going to be a dissenter on Squid Game - at least so far. I'm like 40 mins into E1 and getting a little bored. I can see from trailer it moves to some kind of Hunger Games competition, but it's taking it's time - and main character not particularly likeable. Is first episode just setting up the backstory and then the show picks up?

Well I’ve got bad news for you. Episode 2 had lots of backstory.

I’m loving it. Watched 3 episodes last night.

I guess I stopped watching about 2 minutes too early - before the plot progressed.

having watched all of squid game i'll give it a

slow in some parts, maybe took a little long building backstory in others, but all worth it in the end.

Watched the first of the final season of Jack Whitehall: Travels with my Father. Only two episodes, travelling round the UK, but still great fun.

Rather close to the bone at times as their relationship is often rather reminiscent of myself and my brother on some of our travels together.

Which scene?

I thought the first 2 1/2 episodes were just okay because of so much tiresome backstory. I fast forwarded through some of it. I thought Game 3 in ep3 was really something special to watch and after that the show gets really intense and great to watch for the rest of the episodes. Game 4 was gut wrenching for me. Worth watching.

There are two subplots that were a little confusing to understand at first.
Spoiler below only to help understand the subplots a little , otherwise no significant information about the main plot.

Spoiler:
1. A undercover spy infiltrates the Game and impersonates employees 2) Some of the Game employees are running a secret organ harvesting business without approval from the Front Man. They enlist a surgeon from the players to help them cut organs.

Yep

Spoiler:
How convenient that he ended up in the van of one of the two lower level employees that were a part of the organ harvesting. Pretty convenient plot point out of the 200+ employees working there.

Squid Game has better set up, but Alice in Borderland has better game play.
