original snabba cash > series (only the first though, with Joel Kinnaman).

Series completely detached from the movies. Didnt notice anything (characters or plot) connecting them.

Sweet Tooth - had zero interest in this based on the stupid name and netflix synopsis. decided to give it a chance based on the comments from dtemp and parisron. went in knowing nothing except that it was about a half-deer kid in the apocalypse, and expected to turn it off in the first episode. ended up marathoning the whole thing instead.

without giving anything away, it is indeed about a half-deer kid in the apocalypse. but it's a lot more than that. the lead child actor is not completely horrible, and when he is, it's mostly in sync with what the character is supposed to be like, so it's tolerable. i'd say the main draw of the show is the moral ambiguity and shades of gray with most of the adult characters - this is leaned on at times, but still worthwhile. the primary series antagonist is a bit of a cartoon, tho. the world building is a little heavy-handed but overall decent. dialogue is fine. writing is decent. production design is fine, and they did nice work with overgrowth. there are a couple of apocalypse-related glaring plot holes, but if you can ignore them, not much else is problematic. the series starts off strong, gets weaker, then strengthens again toward the end. they did a good job maximizing audience demo appeal, there's something for everyone. it helped to go into this with low expectations.

+1. I watched this regularly with my grandson like 10 years ago and loved it.

How did Dominic West do?

I never watched The Wire, but I do recall a clip where he was doing an English/cockney accent. So he was a British actor playing an American cop trying to imitate an English accent. I thought that was pretty well done (not qualified to comment on the quality of his American accent).

I must be easy to fool cause I thought West was American when I originally watched the Wire. Same can be said for Idris Elba and about 50 other British actors who I thought were American until I saw them in interviews. Damian Lewis from Homeland is another one who had me fooled.

Aidan Gillen is another one. I didn't really notice, but supposedly his American accent wasn't great in The Wire. Then he had his mad, everchanging one in GoT.

I was shocked when I heard him interviewed, I thought he was joking at first!

D&D ruined Littlefinger, not the actor. They changed his character's representation so much from the books, it's bizarre.

Littlefinger is supposed to be the guy that everyone trusts because he's so smart, but is actually a Machiavellian-level schemer underneath the humble facade.

In the show, everyone straight up says "don't trust Littlefinger" any time he his mentioned. It makes no sense why he would have any influence at all.

The Good Place - temporarily set aside my despisement of ted danson to take a look at this and i have to admit he does a good job. the synopsis from wiki:

Quote:
The series is centered around an afterlife in which humans are sent to "the Good Place" or "the Bad Place" after death: all humans are assigned a numerical score based on the morality of their conduct in life. Only those with the very highest scores are sent to the Good Place, where they enjoy eternal happiness with their every wish granted, guided by an artificial intelligence named Janet; all others experience an eternity of torture in the Bad Place.
the show (from michael schur, of the office / parks & rec fame) starts off with kristen bell as a bad person who gets sent to the good place by mistake, and tries to keep that on the dl and pretend to be a good person so she doesn't end up getting found out and sent to the bad place. it's very highly rated at 92%+ for each season.

four seasons, i'm currently in the second. don't look at the wiki entry because there are spoilers that will ruin some of your enjoyment of the show.

bell is pretty great as a terrible person trying to fake it as a good person. she meets some other characters after she arrives in the good place and the show is mostly about them all interacting. unfortunately, there is one supremely annoying character that kind of ruins the immersion as a dumb & dumber clone, but overall the characters are well done, especially the AI character. the writing is all over the place, but the show does a good job of constantly moving the plot forward and evolving the arc without getting stale. production design is decent, acting is fine, and the humor is varied. the best aspect of the show is how every episode builds on the previous ones and things that happen actually matter later on. the primary problem is that the dumb character is beyond caricature and flat out annoying, they really should have toned that one back a bit.

there are lots of low level discussions of ethics and moral philosophy if you enjoy that kind of thing. also some comical references to the same. one character is basically devoted to this, and does a great job as a foil to bell.

I really enjoyed this special. Very unique talent. I also thoroughly enjoyed his movie 8th grade.

I found this song from his special particularly fantastic. “Apathy is a tragedy, and boredom is a crime.”

The Laundromat - Soderbergh movie about the infamous Panama Papers, which revealed how the rich were hiding their wealth in offshore shell companies and trusts.

Amazing cast - Antonio Banderas, Gary Oldman, Meryl Streep, list goes on...basically you'll recognise everyone in it. They even have Chris Parnell and Will Forte have a 2min nothing role before killing them off!

Actual film was a let down. Basically wanted to be The Big Short and fell well short.

"Kevin Can F**k Himself" premieres on regular AMC channel this Sunday with the 1st 2 episodes. I just watched them both on AMC+.

It is strange and different. It stars Annie Murphy(Schitt's Creek) and the 1st 5 minutes start off as a standard corny sitcom with laugh track, but when she is alone or out of the house it is more of a standard dark drama.

It keeps going back and forth between corny home life and dark other life but it is headed for dark things. I am interested to see the finish.
