Her performance, some of the dark humor, and the music (other than some of the theme music choices post-s1) are the best parts of The Leftovers.
Great in one of my favourite scenes. I was genuinely disturbed by it.

The Leftovers peaked very early into s2; I ended up being pretty disappointed in the show since then given it was on pace to be elite and fell short imo. Still very good, just not as good as I expected based on all of the hype on here over the years. I had actually watched the first two episodes during the original airing and stopped and then decided to give it another try a few weeks ago, still very glad that I did as it gets way better after the first few eps.
Have you watched Devs yet karamazonk? Not on Netflix, but a must watch

I just finished a binge watch of this show. Big thumbs up. I've been looking for something engrossing like this. I recall not having a favorable impression of it when it was released, maybe due to the people complaining that it wasn't like the old TV show. I'm glad you recommended it, because it was very good.

It looks like Season 2 is happening. Two of the showrunners from The Knick are doing it, which is cool because The Knick is one of the best programs I've seen in recent memory. I hope Perry Mason can last longer than the Knick though. On the bright side, there's some kind of spinoff that's in the works, which could be good, with Soderbergh's involvement.

I wasn't familiar with him prior to The Leftovers but thought "there's no way this guy is an American" immediately after hearing him speak. Other than that, his acting has been impeccable, and I actually enjoy listening to the accent, it's just occasionally distracting because it's not realistic.

Nope but I've been wanting to. Haven't had Hulu in forever, don't really have an interest in getting it, and I don't believe in illegal streaming. I just checked to see if my library had any DVDs of it and no such luck. I'll probably see it eventually, though.

Leftovers had a couple of scenes that messed with for awhile after. Namely the episode in season 1 where someone got “stoned”. That was freaking brutal!

I'm in the middle of S1 of The Sinner. Not too sure I'll be able to continue after the first season. Pretty bad writing imo. The ridiculous portrayal of the police just makes me laugh the whole show. Just finished the episode where they let Jessica Biel leave jail with the cop for a couple of hours, you know, just to see if it jogs her memory. I thought I remembered it getting good reviews on here. Was that a product of my failing memory again??

Bo Burnham's new Netflix special "Inside" is phenomenal. I did not know him at all before I watched it so had no idea what to expect. Not even sure how to describe it, not really stand-up, not quite a musical... but it captures the alienation of online life and Covid isolation better than just about anything I've seen. I found it quite moving actually.

british actors seem to think that the generic american accent is just a flat scratchy/achy voice. i blame hugh laurie for popularizing this approach in house. benedict cumberbatch as dr strange is another egregious violator (he's basically a house caricature in the first movie). tom holland as peter parker does the exact same thing.

I'm only three episodes into sweet tooth but its amazing so far. Combines elements of many post-apocalyptic things really well(the stand, hell, even, the last of us).

Definitely recommend.

I'm glad you mentioned House because I thought Hugh Laurie's accent was absolutely dreadful (from the few clips I watched). Another one was Sacha Baron Cohen in the Chicago 7 movie - how tf was he nominated for an Oscar?

There are enough different and weird accents in the US that they at least usually sound like something that could exist. They aren't horrible to me.

Now southern accents, done by american actors are usually downright horrible. That's the bigger shame. I met a person once, this girl from Mississippi, the only person that sounded remotely close to these botched accents. And, to be honest, I think she was playing it up a little bit.

Christian Bale in Batman Begins is the worst thing ever to crack $100mil, but I don't give a **** about batman or any of the comic book ****(other than X-Men). It's not an accent just a horrible grunting sound from a brit.

I'm pretty certain US actors would fall apart doing some of our strong regional accents. This is only the big areas. There's a very large amount of variation within them too.

The absolute worst attempt at a cockney accent I've ever heard by a mile was by a UK actor - Charlie Hunnam in Green Street.

Honourable mention to Forest Whittaker in The Crying Game though.

Anyone seen Undercover? Was scrolling through Netflix and thought it looked interesting, and has 2 seasons. Always slightly dubious I've never heard of but it has good reviews.

Also, looked at Snabba Cash. Is it good to watch the original trilogy of movies first?

Says there are 3 movies 10 years ago, and Snabba Cash is set 10 years later. They sound a bit crap so will probably skip them then.

Anyone give sweet tooth a shot on Netflix? Great ratings on rotten tomatoes. Kind of looks like a kids show though.

parison is that from OOT? the fact that it doesnt have the wire , let alone sopranos or deadwood makes it seem it had to been a super newer thread or voters than the ones from 6-7 years ago

So does Avatar: The Last Airbender, and it's one of the best shows of all time.

If your interest is piqued, give it a whirl!

It was top shows of the decade. 2010-2019. If the majority of it ran then.

Undercover is really good. It's written well and pretty intense. The actor who portrays the villain, Ferry, steals the show.
