TL;DR Sweet 16 Pool Story
Spoiler:
I was first introduced to this reindeer game back in the early 90s shortly after I graduated from college. My buddy's dad ran the game at the time. His buddies and a bunch of us youngsters would meet at a sports bar and watch the games that would finish off the round of 32 and finalize the Sweet 16.

The year was 1997. Games are done and we start picking teams out of a hat for $20. The first $20 I get in, I pick Arizona and some other spare team. The second $20 I get in, I pick Arizona and some other spare team. Wait until the $50s start hoping my luck will change. Nope. I pick Arizona and some other spare team. Didn't have the disposable income back then that I do now, so kept my powder dry to fire a $100. Yep, you guessed it, I pull Arizona, BUT (drumroll please) I finally snag a #1 seed in Kentucky!

I was a bit dejected as Arizona was a #4 seed. So I figured $90 was flushed down the drain, but I had Kentucky in the other side of my $100 to give me some solace. However, the rest of the #1 seeds were still alive including Kansas, North Carolina and Minnesota along with two #2 seeds in Utah and UCLA. And to crush any dreams I had about Arizona going on a Cinderella run, they had to face #1 Kansas in their first game, who was the overwhelming favorite that year.

Sometimes Dreams Do Come True

But also sprinkled into this sun run was their Elite 8 matchup against #10 Providence that they won in OT 96-92. I remember watching that game curled up on my couch in the fetal position praying for the miracle run to continue. They then make it past North Carolina in the Final 4, and wouldn't you know it, we get Arizona and Kentucky in the championship game.

Back then, we would all meet back up at the sports bar to watch the game and collect money or drown our sorrows. Felt pretty good walking up to my buddy's dad with my hand out knowing I had an $800 win locked up in my $100 before the game even started. But I still had a nice sweat in my two $20s and my $50. Sure, I had at least the consolation prizes locked up, but an improbable win would cap off bragging rights for the next year. Took OT in a thriller, but they managed to win 84-79.

In for $190 - Out for $1250
Tidy profit of $1060

In B4 cool story Bro, tell it again
I'll open up additional interest lists if necessary.

I knew this story sounded familiar. You posted a slightly shorter version in last year's sweet 16 pool thread.

So, with that said.....

Cool story bro, tell it again!!

Hi everyone - We have 6 entrants in $20 #2, and $50 #2 is full. If you claimed a spot in either of those, please send escrow if you haven't already. I know I can get 2 participants for the $20 if they aren't claimed here, so there is no risk of it not filling.

Thank you!!

All Sweet 16 pools are paid in full aside from the 2 spots in the $20 #2 that belong to rickroll, but i have been in contact with him. I can fill the last 2 spots on that pool if needed but will give a few more days for someone here to claim them first.

CC-Sister will take one if he doesn't pony up. Did he pay you for the $50? If not she'll cover one of those as well.

There are 2 open spots still in the $20 #2.

I'll give her 1 of them. The $50 #2 is full and everyone has paid.

All 5 sweet 16 pools in this thread are full and everyone has escrowed. Thanks for your cooperation!! Now to wait for the Madness to begin, and see how many non-Drake teams advance to the Sweet 16 (hint: at least 15, but not more than 16).

As a reminder, payouts will be 5x the buy-in for the championship team holder, and 3x the buy-in for the runner up. So for the $20 buy-in pools, payouts are 100/60; for the $50 pools, payouts are 250/150; and for the $100 pool, payouts will be 500/300.

Randomization will occur as soon as the final 16 teams are determined. I will need volunteers at that time. I will randomize in the same way I did it last year. I will randomize participant names for all 10 segments (2 for each pool), and send them to a volunteer who will verify once completed. Then I will have teams randomized on each side of the bracket, 5 times, for 5 lists per side of the bracket. I'll match them up in order, first list for $20 pool, 2nd list for $20 #2, 35r list for $50, 4th list for $50 #2, and 5th list for $100. Once all matching is complete, I will post full lists here, and maintain them as teams lose and are eliminated.

As I mentioned in the squares pool thread, I will be busy on weekends and unable to update immediately, but will update Sunday evenings and will process payouts promptly after the championship game.

Thanks for your understanding!!

Looking to randomize tomorrow night. Anyone want to volunteer to hold 5 lists of names after I randomize them and compare to results? Also will need help randomizing the team lists. There will be 10 randomizations needed in total.

Let me know if you can hold the name lists please! That is the first step.

Hi everyone! Name lists for the sweet 16 pools have been randomized and sent to marknfw. Now, I need help with the following. Each team list will need to be randomized 5 times. I'll take the first 5 of each list, and anyone can do this aside from marknfw. Please go to random.org, use list randomizer, and generate a random list. I am posting team lists below. The first of each list will be applied to $20 #1, the 2nd to $20 #2, third to $50 #1, 4th to $50 #2, and 5th to the $100 pool.

San Diego St
