maybe if you're an idiot who can't differentiate people from nice sounding words. I know if angelina jolie was named Blanche she'd still be hot but with a horrible sounding name.

I refuse to name my kids after states, either.

My wife and I talk about this, but I'm not sure that it's meant literally. It's more of a convenient shorthand for "I find that name laughable."

One offbeat name that we have discussed for a girl that I like quite a bit is Juniper. Outside of that, most of the names she seems to favor tend to be names your characters would have in Oregon Trail.

Olivia is god awful and sounds very dated. OK it is no Maude or Eunice but getting there.

I think Lisa>Laura

Also like Catilyn, Colby and Brittany (despite that Spears psycho)

I also like the name Alexis, but will like use it for a middle name if we have 2 daughters. Haven't decided on a second first name though.

Wow, I never would.

Oh man, I just remembered. I have a friend who is pregnant and her last name is Hale, and she wanted to name the baby Raine Storm Hale. How many meteorological events do you need in one name?

WTF is wrong with the name Jenna? I have met like 2 other Jennas in my entire life (well, I have one 'n'). It's not a common name at all (George Bush be damned).

I knew someone at school whose middle name was 'Ion' (although he was so forgettable that I have forgotten his first name).

I know someone called OdinThor which is like the most badass name ever. I think someone mentioned Kelda before - it's a pretty common scottish name.

Boys:
Ian

My grandfather's middle name was Odin. When we were little he told us it meant the God of Wind. After that we'd sometimes refer to him behind his back as "Bag of Wind." We were mean.

I never heard of Astrid before this thread. It looks like Astride, and sounds slutty. I like it (for somebody else's daughter).

Becca,

Lola? Really? I guess I wouldn't subject my daughter to the inevitable questioning about why she walks like a woman but talks like a man.

I golfed with a guy named Hillary this summer. I think he has them all beat.

My wife is preggers and due in Feb. If its a girl we're going with Kara. You like?

We have a few options for a girl but neither of us can come up with a boys name we both like.
