j,

Last day: Hey boss, I had too much stuff to carry today, but I can drop off the clothes whenever, just let me know when is a good time to drop them off. Next Tuesday? Great.

Next Weds: Boss, sorry, something came up with work, when's another time I can drop off the clothes?

Thurs: j, you can come anytime. OK, I'll drop them off either tomorrow or next Tuesday.

Next weds: j, where are the clothes? Oh, sorry, totally forgot about it. When is a good time to drop them off?

That seems silly/dumb/amusing to me.

capone, i sense sarcasm in that post, but it should not be surprising to anyone that i am a troll. My ability to get underneath people’s skin is not something I’m super proud of and I reined it back a lot as I’ve gotten older, but it’s occasionally entertaining ability for me to use on people I don’t particularly care for.

People would probably describe me as a jerk or an ******* and it’s not really a label i put too much credence in because people are dumb and for the most part i try to do the right thing always. I would probably be described as annoying though.

Idk. A few have met me from this forum and seem to like me well enough.

El D,

That’s pretty much exactly what will happen, except I probably will be way too busy to deal with it and he wont contact me more than once.

he’s lazy and apathetic and forgetful and can barely be bothered to do job duties that are important so unless he really has a vendetta i just cant see him pushing it.

It doesnt matter at all though in the end

Have you read AlwaysFolding's thread about quitting his job last year? I just saw it yesterday. Pretty hilarious. Maybe you should Nic Cage the **** out of your boat before you leave?

I didnt do anything too nuts and it was like any other normal day, except my anxiety was higher than normal and i had random chest tightness and started shaking really bad at the end.

My anxiety usually manifests with physical symptoms so i probably need to take it easy as i can for a few weeks because i’m pushing my limits pretty hard lately.

In that spot I'd bring the clothes in on my last day so I never had to interact with those people ever again.

And i'd definitely only bring in specifically what I was contracted to bring back. No extras.

Not sure if this is an option for you but something that works really well for me are beta blockers.

I probably should be on those because my blood pressure's sky high like almost always, but I've been off meds for 7 months and trying to manage it through therapy alone

Today wasn't too bad, there were only like 4 people in the office (maybe because it's monday??) and I met my clump mates and got set up with a laptop, linked my git account, got a company email, etc.

everyone's pretty nice but way more educated than me. Most were surprised to learn I'm still on my undergrad.

My assignment today was to go through the new employee documents and then work on a tutorial for Spark which is a data processing tool.

I got about 50% of the way through it and then tomorrow I'm going to learn the company's products.

I lost my dad's wedding ring today though :/ i knew i shouldnt have worn it. Whenever I'm in an unfamiliar environment doing unfamiliar things i tend to lose stuff like crazy because I'm too focused on whatever task is at hand. sucks, but oh well. It was kind of my good luck charm but it represents a really ****ty marriage and I don't think he'd be that upset.

I went into the kitchen and peeked in the fridge and pretty much the only thing that was in there was beer good stuff too. I won't be drinking at work though i don't think, my relationship with alcohol is already pretty unhealthy. It was REALLY difficult not smoking all day, I'm pretty free to wander around and do whatever I want but I don't really want the smoker label there because I'm planning on quitting eventually anyway. Probably gonna get nicotine gum.

and I think I may actually be in management, I looked at the org chart and there was a section under "project management" and "client services" that were filled by my boss currently. and there was stuff under the project management.

j,

Make a goal to quit smoking before graduation! Keep the string of massive life improvements going.

I'm really sorry to hear about the ring. Do you just throw it in your pocket? If you think you lost it at your new job, you should mention it without fear of being a weirdo who loses a sentimental object on his first day. Again, that sucks, I'm sorry.

J, don't know if you've tried it before, but I would steer clear of the nicotine gum. It's nasty stuff and will probably upset your stomach.

thank you for all the advice, it helped a lot.
Jmakz,

I stumbled on this thread just now, and looking at the dates on the first page, I knew I could scroll ahead and spoil the ending, but I somehow knew that with the advice of OOT and the fact that people generally care about you that it would end up all peachy. At least more peachy than the starting situation.

I'm happy to see how things are going and although I wish I could have added a bunch of stuff about how pointless the last two weeks of things with your previous job will feel in a month or two when you realize how none of it matters and that you can close that chapter for good.

I've worked several different jobs in my life, and the first few always felt like I was leaving family at the time. Now I realize that people come and go from jobs and the businesses move on like nothing happened. I know it's a big deal to you, but you'll learn not to let it affect you as much as you go through it in the future. 14 years is a long time, so I empathize with your spot.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I'm in a very similar spot with trying to figure out direction in my life and a lot of the advice here, although tailored specifically for you, has been pretty enlightening. I'm proud that you made your way through it.

Thanks everyone

You're asking if he can pay you with a check instead of an electronic transfer? I'd guess yes. Whether or not you can pick up your pay isn't on your employer in any way.

You can get your check tomorrow with or without your stuff.

Sorry J for the derail, but I have one. Getting a walk through at a new job and meeting with the owner and VP. Should I not mention “potential for growth” as something I desire? A good time to discuss my future would be when?

I’m lucky to have the hourly wage I’m being offered, but it’s not something to build a nest egg from and I know I have it in me to do bigger things. My fear is becoming too loyal to the team, even though I still don’t know the operations at all...one step at a time, duh. It’s managing inventory and overseeing labor at a grocery wholesaler. My feel is that it’s a good organization. Not sure where else I could ask this.

I have an interview in 3 hours.

'Loyalty to the team' is for suckers and Japanese.

Your organization will flush you in a heartbeat.

Loyalty to the company should only extend as far as it directly benefits you. **** them.

this is a primary reason i've neglected to start a career. the other being immaculate laziness. still, the fear of being used as a pawn instead of a rook has been a looming frustration.
