I recently discovered these songs by The Weakerthans / John K Samson. They're written from the perspective of a cat living with (and then leaving) a depressed and alcoholic guy. By far the strongest emotional reaction I've ever had to a song/set of songs in my life.





And then this one from the perspective of the guy three weeks into rehab:
