Re: Ms. OOT 2018 Discussion thread.

Later today.

Group A is AOC, Mareli Miniutti, the 2nd placed qualifier with the lowest points (probably Lais Ribeiro) and the third place qualifier with highest points (probably Doutzen Kroes).

It'll be clear enough in about 6 hours or so that I can get it underway with Group A.

That's retarded. AIDS is basically cured now anyways.

Lektor,

Repechage is a loserís bracket or consolation bracket, not a qualifying tournament.

This important matter is being discussed in the A-D thread. Here's my last post there.

I'm guessing not many people here watched last month's Rugby World Cup final repechage (so named as the qualification procedure has multiple layers of repechage):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_R...qualifications

The exact meaning varies by sport but it's a round or process for competitors who are still in it in some sense (not always able to still be outright champion but often they can) but the level is "capped" in some way because competitors with stronger results have already qualified for a later level of the championship.
The Rugby teams can still be outright champions for example.

The repechage in Ms OOT is equivalent to a second chance for losers. Any nominee that had at least three seconders (and at least 3 OP-able pics) is already qualified for the group stages and doesn't need to qualify this way.

Qualifiers from the L-Me group

Madalina Diana Ghenea 39
Lais Ribeiro 29
Lieke Martens 27
Liza Soberano 22

Lais Ribeiro is guaranteed to have the lowest score of a second placed finisher and Doutzen Kroes is effectively guaranteed to have the highest score of a third place finisher (there isn't time for her to be caught by the people in the last group) that confirms seeds 24 and 25, so I'll get Group A up in the next couple of hours.

^ I don't mind. Complaining about aspects of the organization is part of the fun of Ms. OOT. For example:

Seedings of qualifiers should be based of % of votes, not raw # of votes. Imo.

Custer,

And there should be a repechage so deserving candidates like Halsey get another chance.

TBH I think the different numbers of votes cast in the rounds reflects higher or lower levels of support for the candidates in those rounds so there is no reason to give a boost to people coming out of e.g. the third group.

I'd prefer to go the other way next year and not seed e.g. Kroes below Ghena and Ribeiro simply because she finished lower in her group than they finished in theirs. Also I wouldn't guarantee 4 people getting through from each group - effectively make it one big round.

The main winners under that scenario would by Hyuna and Deepika, both of whom had over 30 votes.

You'd have to start all the rounds at the same time though.

An actual repechage might not be a bad idea in the future. E.g. Only create 7 groups instead of 8, and leave the last 2 places in the bracket open to a vote among all the third-place finishers.

No, you'd still want to have 32 candidates in the main competition as sometimes getting your candidate in is all you really hope for and a top 32 finish has become the gold standard in that regard. You'd want structure it like this:

Stage 1 - Groups
8 groups of 4, first two in each group go forward.
Repechage round for the 8 third place finishers, 2 of them go through.

Stage 2 - The Excellent Eighteen
Based on seedings from the previous round the 18 contestants are paired up and the winner of each match goes through.
Repechage round for all the losers, from which three can save themselves.

Stage 3 - The Tiltillating Twelve
6 matchups, winners go through.

Stage 4 - The Sexy Six
3 matchups, winners go through
Repechage of losing contestants to choose one more qualifier for the next round.

Stage 5 - The Foxy Four
2 matchups, winners go through to the final

Stage 6 - Final.

doesn't matter since the votes are not public there is no way to verify anyone qualifies to vote.

You click on the number of votes to see.

These are AOC's voters so far:

+rep_lol, .Alex., 2ShedsJackson, Alchemist, alwarde4, aoFrantic, applesauce123, bigt2k4, BluffMyNuts, BOIDS, BrookTrout, CalledDownLight, champstark, ClarkNasty, crimedopay420, dalerobk2, DavidFongs, DC11GTR, DodgerIrish, Dragonbreath, ESKiMO-SiCKNE5S, evildeadalive, ex-why-zed, goofyballer, Grue, Hired Goons2, iamnotawerewolf, jalfrezi, Johnny Truant, JonnyA, Kafja, kerowo, kkcountry, la2sb91, lenC, LieutenantBroccoli, ligastar, Loden Pants, mantasm, Matty Lice, Max Cut, microbet, MrAdvantage, mullen, ninefingershuffle, Noze, OneEyedPoker, otatop, pvn, quarantined, RainierWolfcastle, redirkulous, ScreaminAsian, skiier04, Slighted, smacc25, SteveSax, Stinky Stu, stuff they say, TehVader, UsedToBeGood, Vecernicek, Vegasvilla8, Victor, WeakerthanPaul, WillieWin?, Zimmer4141

"In past Ms. OOTs, voting rules required that participants be registered before October of this year, have at least 100 total posts, and at least 10 posts in OOT (OOTV doesn't count). Owing to attrition, the lack of new blood in OOT, and the poor quality of last year’s competition, we’re going to relax those rules a bit in order to encourage some better nominations and a more active contest. If you want to ensure that you qualify to vote, bring something to the table in this thread:"

So basically anyone above who doesn't have 10 posts in OOT and didn't participate in the nominations thread should not have their vote counted. In a close contest a mod may have to check some of them out, but a fair number of the above seem to be long established posters.
