Yeah, let's temp ban 50% of the people who've posted pics this year. Next year we'll go to a fully text-based competition to avoid a repeat of these shenanigans.

The Ms. OOT competition has been weird this year.

Had anyone heard of Turner prior to this contest?

Didn't want to derail the thread while voting was still underway, now here goes:

I'd go the opposite way to you, that the whole idea of "relevant" is pretty close to "cool" in that someone is considered "relevant" if they have been in all the "must-see" movies that the cool kids go and see.

I'm admitting I'm not cool enough to follow fashion and other aspects of mainstream culture.

Not very familiar with hipsters but afaics it's just the latest mainstream fashion/lifestyle fad that second hand thinkers are telling each other is cool/relevant at the moment.

Not me, but that goes for the majority of the contestants (including Irina Shayk, one of my own nominees - I decided to look up the girl from the Agent Provocateur ad to see if we should nominate her). When I was single I used to live pretty much next to an old cinema (to give you an idea, a few years later it was considered easily adaptable to a 1940s war-torn look to make the "gimme the oscar" scene in Atonement) and I went a long to see whatever film was on every week, so I would probably have known most of the contestants in Miss OOT 2001 if it had been held during that phase of my life, but not now.

The same probably goes for most of the voters - after all, none of the films we are talking about have been seen by the majority of people - even if we're talking just about the US rather than worldwide.

Had you heard of Ana de Armas prior to last year's competition?

Elite Eight:

Jennifer Lopez (age 31) vs. Britney Spears (20)

Charlize Theron (26) vs. Jennifer Aniston (32)

Jennifer Connelly (31) vs. Adriana Lima (20)

Penelope Cruz (27) vs. Angelina Jolie (26)

Final Four:

Jennifer Lopez vs. Charlize Theron

Jennifer Connelly vs. Penelope Cruz

Finals:

Charlize Theron vs. Jennifer Connely

Spoiler:

Close finals. Charlize Theron is better looking but Jennifer Connelly appeals more to the hipsters so wins.

One of the olds can probably assemble a better simulation -- I was too young back then. Main observation is that the pool back then is way stronger than in recent years, even if you remove a bunch due to them winning previous years. Also that Josie Maran has this pic:

Spoiler:

Might have been able to pass that pic off as Alicia Vikander tbh. She looks quite similar there.

Don't click this one. AV resemblance is uncanny in a few of these.

@Rei, for Miss OOT 2001 - good choices (except Conolley), in addition Cameron Diaz was also pretty hot and "relevant" at that time. Amy Smart and Tara Reid would have done well too.

Alizee was also coming up then

though no doubt she would lose to some random American actress.

FHM UK's sexiest women of 2001 was
1st: Jennifer Lopez
2nd: Rachel Stevens
3rd: Britney Spears
4th: Kelly Brook
5th: Denise Richards
6th: Salma Hayek
7th: Cat Deeley
8th: Charlize Theron
9th: Carmen Electra
10th: Alyson Hannigan

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FHM%27...iest_Women_(UK)

though FHM itself was moving past it's own peak relevance by that time.
