If James McGill could make his way through law school back in the day..

Turning down Famke Janseen is by far the dumbest part of Rounders.

If you listen to the commentary on the DVD for Rounders the writers say that whenever they've been asked if they've written Science Fiction they point to that scene.

I also have a theory that if he hooked up with Famke and made her his gf then she'd be able to advance him the $5K necessary to make $15K ($10K from Petrovsky + $5K advance from her poker room) and he wouldn't need to risk his well being in a match vs. KGB.

Good one that I never thought of. I think he would have gone to her for some loot even without being GF but he still owed Chesterfield 6k so that would likely be an issue.

Maybe Gramma would be happy to break legs over 5k but KGB wanted more.
Mike states clearly that KGB wants to own him.
Did I hear someone say Triads?

While it's super entertaining, the Nicholson blowup at the end of A Few Good Men really, really, really stretches the imagination.

Kaffee made a person-specific read when Jessup lost his cool over very little when Kaffee was touring Gitmo, and it was a good one. I never thought Jessup's blowup on the stand was all that contrived.

I do always think that it's bat**** insane that Kaffee, facing the prospect of a court martial and demonstrating plainly that he was afraid of that very thing, went for the kill shot before even getting an answer when he had Jessup trapped in a blatant contradiction.

Ending of Speed never made much sense to me. First Keanu somehow mistakes the very hot (even in a bomb vest) Sandra Bullock for the very ugly Dennis Hopper from about 5 feet away. Then, he can't slow down the subway train because the throttle is broken, so instead he decides to speed up the train... with the very same broken throttle.

Not to mention it seems like it would have been easier to just turn off the electric to the rails rather than speed up to max velocity and hope the train derails, launches upward somehow, crashes through a wall, and deposits our heroes, with only a few scratches, onto the middle of Hollywood Boulevard.

Also the ending of St Elmos Fire makes no sense... love triangle with Judd Nelson and Andrew McCarthy fighting over Ally Sheedy for the entire movie. In the end she tells them she doesn't want either of them, she just wants them "all to be friends". To which they both shrug and reply: "Eh, okay." Dramatic!

American History X

I curb stumped a black person to death and have nazi tattoos, but then I talked to one for 5 minutes and changed my mind + when a character is supposed to be good at basketball but obviously is not.

Back to the Future

Doc brings Marty and Jennifer into the future because 'something's got to be done about their kids'.

However, when Marty and Jennifer leave 1985 and arrive in the future, they skip over all the intervening years. This film's rule of time travel was explained when Einstein (the dog) traveled one minute into the future early in the film.

Therefore, when Marty and Jennifer arrive in the future, they'll encounter a world in which the two of them simply disappeared in 1985.

They won't be in a world where they got married, had kids, etc. There won't be an older Marty and Jennifer because they vanished without a trace in 1985.

Disagree that it makes no sense (except that fighting over Ally Sheedy in the first place makes no sense)

Lol yeah I have nothing against Ally but between her complete absence of personality in the movie, and her young Republican/Amish wardrobe, she may be the least sexy object of obsession in movie history.

From their mannerisms and familiarity, I always assumed that they had a thing "back in the day." This explains away any issue with him turning her down-- he'd been down that road before, and he was more preoccupied with his Worm problem.

Enemy -ending was weird as **** and I had to watch it 3x to make sure it didn’t skip anything. I read the explanation and it makes sense given that, but still a very weird ending that made 0 sense when I watched it first.

The departed has the dumbest ending I've ever seen. All of a sudden the characters act entirely different than they did in the rest of the movie all so they could have the ending they thought was cool.

I agree the departed was a great movie until the ending.

re: Good Will Hunting

I mean that she was a bit of a **** and Will could easily do better. Plus he left everything behind to go to freaking California to pursue a relationship with this ****. He forgot the basic truth that it's "bros before hoes".

There's always far more fascination with Good Will Hunting than the movie warrants. People are supposed to see that movie as "that otherwise middling movie with another amazing Robin Williams performance."

Totally on board with Will's decision to go to California. His bro wanted him to GTFO and the job market for someone of Will's skill set is much better in California than in Boston. Will prob ended up being employee #9 at Google or some ****

how was she a bit of a ****?? No chance he is going to do better than her in south boston either. You love who you love, makes sense for him to go after the girl he loves. Plus his bros wanted him to get the **** out and go have the better life they cant have, would have been a slap in the face to them if he stayed.
