Hi All

just curious as to your thoughts on asking for a move to a different dept at work.

I am good at my job - probably too good (i know sounds stupid)

Anyways i was blocked from a promotion several months ago as they couldnt let me go from position as i am the strongest team member and several other latteral internal moves were happening at the same time. - the manager of another Dept basically head hunted me and convinced me to apply and i went for an informal interview, after several weeks i was told i was not skilled enough for the position by the head of that department who is also head of my dept (above the manager who interviewed me) this is not true and was later revealed back to me as to why i didn't get the role.

Anyways the job i have now is full on always go go go, stressful etc and its not something i want to do forever but at the same time if i didnt have a better option its fine i can live with it i still enjoy some aspects of the role, its good money and also hybrid.

I was thinking of sending an email to either HR, the head of our Dept and/or possibly my manager, stating/asking for a move to another dept when a position becomes free.

Just curious as to what your opinions on this would be , and possibly how to word it.

I'd like to kinda put some fire in my request (like if i dont get it im gone anyways) but also dont want to write it like in case they say ok go then if youre not happy and then that puts me under pressure to actually start looking

is this something an employee should ever do, is it something you have done, can you share your experience or advice.

Thanks

I heard tell from my Uber driver that this is the best job market ever.

I’d try to find a nice way to say that while you’re happy they appreciate your work in your current position, you’re not planning on staying in said position for much longer.

Add that you’d really like to stay at the company if they’re able to accommodate you with a new role. Apparently there are plenty of other internal moves happening so there shouldn’t be any reason for you not to be able to move too. The “sorry you’re too important in your current position” thing is total BS. If that happens, at the very least you can ask for a raise equivalent to what you would get if promoted.

ny far easiest solution is get your resume out there, if you're AS good as you say if you can get similar type positions or ame type of positions, say you got x offers and need x raise or x accommodation or youll walk.

assuming you are willing to do so. that's the only thing i can think of off top of my head

I recommend quitting your job and starting a saffron chicken truck, at least until you can pool your money with your friends and get rich handicapping sports.

If your bosses appreciated you, they'd throw candy at you.

"i was blocked from a promotion several months ago as they couldnt let me go from position as i am the strongest team member"

This is a huge red flag that you're working for a bad company. It's always easier to fill lower level positions than higher.
