Thanks, they did have a couple good reviews. I already ordered the watersport gloves, so I will give a review when I get back.

I really do have a custom, and really do love those types of bikes. Once you get use to the seating they really are a comfortable bike, not as comfortable as a bmw touring bike, but that really isnt the target of a custom. I know my riding demographic is the polar opposite of 2p2, but I just wanted to put up my bike as contrast to all the two-buck-chuck ricerockets and Euro bikes being shown.

Okay then, serious question, what kind of riding do you do?

I cruise and I get what your trying to do... Listen, I respect all riders, but my style of bike, and what I personally like, is obv different than everyone else in this thread. I have been on a BMW before, it was comfy, but I felt like Richard Simmons on it. Customs are actually incredibly comfy bikes if thats the riding stance your use too. My first bike was a Harley Sportster when I was 20. I was raised around machine shops and detroit-engine racing. I was never interested in other types of bikes. RiceRockets have always felt akin to suped up honda civics to me; fast but kinda lame. There are intangible and tangible qualities that people hold important to themselves when subconsciously deciding what type of bike they like.

Have you ever riden a custom?

PS I agree that everyone should also own a dirt bike. I have had a Kawasaki most of my life.

:/ Not much love for enduro in this thread

The Yamaha is fitted with recluse gears meaning "semi-automatic" gears -> both brakes on handlebars

Bike in back: (this is not my pic but exact same bike)

I've ridden a number of cruisers and I didn't hate the experience.

To each his own, I'm just saying that a lot of guys on those intricate, spindly choppers don't actually do much riding but in a straight line to the next bar.

I'm taking a 3.5 hour trip to Sacramento, from 30 min south of Fresno, this weekend. I've never done more than 2 hrs. Am I going to be hurtin a ton? Also, I don't have a goo backpack for this use, should I go to the cycle store and buy a decent riding-specific pack?

Good buddy of mine has a superduke that he loves. I'd consider getting one (despite the name lameness) but it's too similar of a bike to my shiver. Like, I could see getting another naked if it were a streetfighter or maybe an mv (model from the GI Joe movie) because it'd be a ton faster, but can't see getting a marginally different bike.

2 weeks after getting my bike I rode from vegas to tahoe. I had been riding a couple hundred miles a day before that (goal was to ride my ass off and get comfortable, and find twisties to work on cornering).

That ride was tiring, and yeah the legs got a little numb, but nothing unexpected.

Jihad, suck it up princess. It's 3 hours, not the Dakar If you just have a little bit of stuff, I'd recommend a tank bag or tail pack. Carrying a back-pack will make you more sore and depending on how big it is, can catch extra wind and tire you more quickly.

RBK,
I'm not usually a huge fan of white, but that is one good looking gsx-r.

How do you like the Concours? Have you ridden other similar bikes like an FJR?

Here is what my next 5 days look like:

pretty pumped!

i loved the concours till i got the gixxer now it just feels so big and cumbersome.
then again i ride pretty damn aggressively.

its def a great touring bike, and can actually hold its own in the twisties, and its really great for long trips/2up riding.

i haven't rode the FJR but i've heard really good things about it.
but i sat on both and the connie just felt better underneath me.

looks like a great trip, have fun and be safe.

I recently cruised from Portland to Tahoe. If i have to hit 3 bars every 40 miles I must have been pretty drunk.

I love custom cruisers, and I love love my bike, but Im not really part of the scene. I dont have many tattoos, I dont use hard drugs (any more), and I dont ever plan on joining a biker club. Frankly, I dont have a high opinion on most people in the cruiser scene. Its full of a lot of try-hards and people who think there more badass then they really are.

For at least the near future I will be a 1 bike guy so I have to try to balance fun with something comfortable enough that my wife will join me for multi-day trips. The FJR and the connie seem to fit the bill pretty well. I have ridden the older concours and didn't really like it, but I understand the 1400 is a completely different bike.

can't stress enough to everyone that rides please AGATT it can literally save your life.

get armored jackets, and good quality boots+gloves.

i may have permanent limp in my right leg, but had i not been wearing my gear (not even talking about helmet which has huge chunks missing from it) i would most likely be dead.
