I hope everyone is making time to get out on the pavement this weekend, wonderful time to do it. Did a little over 100 miles yesterday and all was right with the world.

Any advice on this?

I also found a store right by my work that sells gear for what looks like better or comparable prices to the sites posted above, plus i get to try it on obviously. Hopefully I get to head over there during lunch or right after work tomorrow...By the looks of things I might only have time to pick up a rain cover in order to keep it dry as it rains the next few days and not actually ride the bike till Sunday : / I'm going to go with heavier hotter stuff in order to get the most I can out of it before it gets too cold and then get lighter weather gear in the spring time.

I woulda said 20-50 bucks...150 is overkill imo.

Glad to hear you are getting gear first. Firstgear is really good quality but expensive (worth it imo). Alpinestars are also good in my experience. I'd second getting waterproof jacket/pants instead of a rainsuit that goes over your regular gear.

As a motorcycle rider who lives in Northern Minnesota I wish that all deer were to be shot on sight and made extinct within 1 week.

That is all.

2 bad rides

1- went to indiana and back within 3 days from new york (near NYC). it took me about 16 hours on the way out. I had a backpack with 2 changes of clothes in it and that's about all. I was going out to go to some dave matthews band concerts at Deer Creek in Noblesville. I was pretty delirious by the time i got through ohio, getting safely to indiana was pretty remarkable actually.

i had one of my closest calls in ohio when some dolt decided to jump out of the fast lane and stop to make a U on the highway. The entire line of traffic in front of me came to a really fast stop. My reaction was a lil delayed and i ended up bringing the rear slightly up, letting go of the brake to get it back down flat. Then grabbing a handful of front and rear while going left to miss the bumper of the car in front of me. I stopped in line with it's rear wheel .

Something was wrong with the chain as well on my bike. it was due to be changed and i didn't have the stuff to do it when i went out. i remember it was making an uncomfortable amount of noise on my way through indiana especially under acceleration and was so sure it was going to explode on the way home for sure.

got there, crashed in strangers tents and caught the 2 shows and turned around and went home on monday.

i caught rain on the way back through pennsylvania. i remember coming up on a sport tourer (BMW maybe?) and i looked at him in full rain gear, and since it was sunny out i kinda pointed at him, pointed at my leather, then shrugged my shoulders. He smiled at me and pointed at the horizon which was just starting to gray up. It poured for a good 3 hours of my way through pennsylvania and was just pretty miserable since i'd been in the saddle forever by that point.

18 wheeler tried to take me out in penn as well. I always made it a point to pass quickly when i'm side by side w/ anything and i came up on the 18 quick and he just started coming over into my lane, so i went onto the shoulder, finished passing him, turned and flipped him off then took off.

Just mapquested it and it was 752 each direction. so 1500 miles roughly over 2 riding sessions. i was a little sore to say the least.

later when i pulled my chain off and changed it out i was looking at my spacers and what happened was that at some point the bearings in my rear wheel got really bad. This caused the axle itself to spin and wore a groove right down DEEP into one of the rear wheel spacers which i replaced, the axle itself was still dead nuts straight somehow. I'd also chipped about 6 teeth off the rear sprocket hence the ugly feel under acceleration. i'm so damn lucky the thing stayed together at speed on the highway haha

i'lll tell the other one some other time.

1988 Honda Hawk GT650

I had one of these for years. A great bike. A little small for me and not really fast, but it handles like it reads your mind.

Dunno who's in Vegas, but I've found that the guy I've been riding with works on weekends, and when I'm here I'm screwed for the week. If anyone is out here and is looking for someone to go ride with on weekends (not every one since I also travel for work) PM me and feel free to show me better places to ride. I've been mainly going towards Mt. Charleston and also over to Lake Mead. A few times I went up around Red Rock.

Anyhow, if anyone has better suggestions for riding locations or want to meet up on weekends to ride (today and next Saturday I'm free) feel free to PM.

Agreed 100%. So far I'm at 1, a touring bike which I bought this year. My next will prob be a dirtbike (maybe a dualsport, ~450cc or so) or a literbike (CBR, R1, etc.) I'll get some pics of my bike uploaded soon, but it's basically this bike (2009 Harley Street Glide):

Mine has spoked wheels, ABS, cruise, and security, and I added highway pegs, a quick detach sissy bar and pad, and a quick detach "stealth" luggage rack. It's a great bike. So far I've put almost 11k miles on it in 4 months I finally got to go to Sturgis this year (my dad goes every year) and it was an awesome trip. My only real complaint about the bike was that packing was a PITA since I had a big bag and a roll pack tied to the back, along with a tent, chair, and sleeping bag, all of which I had to take off the bike every night and tie back on every morning. I may put a Tour Pak on it next year.

One word of advice, if you ever get the chance to ride the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park, I can guarantee that it will be the best $12 you spend for the year!

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a bike. One of my new roommates bought an 07 Ninja 250 in August and I'm getting the itch to get one now (I've wanted one for a long time). I'd probably get the same thing, not sure that I would need something like a 500cc or 600cc, since I live in a pretty metropolitan area (Ann Arbor, MI). I can get a newer Ninja 250 for around 2k-2.5k. Not sure if I should get the 08 or not, since they did alot of major upgrades body-wise and ergonomically.

Any advice? Should I wait until the spring (I probably will anyway)?

Any insurance advice? My car is currently under my parents policy and I could hopefully add this to it. Hopefully it will be affordable.

Thanks,
Nick

Last time I was in Vegas, my wife rented me a Lotus (it was my birthday). In addition to Red Rock, we drove up to Valley of Fire State Park. It's a bit out of the way, but it was well worth it. Plan on stopping at a few places and doing a bit of hiking.

Awesome bikes.

I used to ride a Ninja 250 (the new ones actually improved their looks a lot) and then bought a 750cc Honda Shadow.

Spoiler:
Now lets be serious. If this is your first bike seriously just get a beater at first. Maybe even a cheap Ninja 250 to pop your cherry. That way you won't give a **** when you drop it. Get some gear, take an MSF class and be smart unlike half the idiots on the street with bikes. Bikes are very unforgiving and on screw up could cost your life or a body part or two. And don't forget you're not the only person you need to worry about.
+1 I bought a used 250 and thank god I did. I dropped it at a low speed, as I was trying to set it on an angle parking lot, and wasn't aware of the lean/falling ratio. Just take it easy until you are fully confident you can work around cars, people on cell phones, people who decide to run across the street, old ladies who do this, guys in cars who think it's cool to cut you off in their hondas, soccer moms who have 5000 kids in the car screaming and throwing off her concentration, and general douchebags who feel motorcycles aren't "real" transportation.

I may be a nit, but people who ride like that when there is traffic/pedestrians around should be drawn & quartered imo.

OP,

Very cool bike. Are you sure you're Jewish? None of my Jewish friends can change a tire, let alone ride a motorcycle, let alone a Harley!
