Any suggestions on what I should expect to pay on a used but still in good condition gas scooter/motorbike? I live in vancouver. Tips on where to find one appreciated.

Thanks.
i know a couple people that have the Honda Ruckus. they're pretty cool
actually. definitely thought about getting one.

i've been seriously thinking about getting a motorcycle again. the area i'm in
now just seems perfect for it. really like the Triumph Bonnevilles. Although
I wouldn't mind finding an older BMW.

Here is my bike. I've lost interest in riding though since I am sick and tired of the idiots on the streets talking on their cell phones and cutting me off everytime I go out. It's no longer fun like it was a few years ago. My last bike I put almost 20k miles on. I only have 2k on this bike lol. I think I've rode it 3 times this year.

if you're looking for a first bike you may want to step down to a slightly less sporty 600 (like Suzuki SV). you'll still get 0-60 faster than a porsche but you'll have slightly more control and thus be less likely to die.

I'm now thinking that "don't be a ******" is way more important than physically limiting yourself. I was worried that 95 HP would be too much for my first bike, but what I'm finding is that I don't accelerate like a monkey anyhow and when I'm going 70 and would like to get to 100 real fast to get out of an uncomfortable spot on a freeway (2 lanes in one direction, cars starting to bunch up around me and me losing "outs") I wish I had some more power.

I'm thinking that I should have coughed up another 7k for a Ducati Streetfighter, and had a similar bike with 60 more horses.

"don't be a ******" is an unsafe concept -- good technique is everything

If I say that you can end up dead using good technique in the wrong spots, you can say that that's a part of good technique. Pretty much like I say that "not being a ******" implies that you bust your ass at actually getting good at the mechanics of riding.

Valentino Rossi could easily end up dead if he was doing some ******ed **** in rain at a blind intersection.

I interpreted your post to mean -- A newer rider would be safer getting a more powerful bike and just not being a ****** with it, because of the extra functionality of rapid acceleration.

If that's what you meant, then I disagree. If "don't be a ******" actually means, "become an expert through study and practice" in your lexicon, then disregard my posts.

I'm wrong. Someone with no experience who can't control the throttle well could easily screw up by mistake and accelerate like mad while cornering. That'd be a disaster.

To the other guy: get a weaker bike just to be safe. I finally thought of a situation where not being a dumbass isn't going to prevent the accident from happening with a more powerful ride. Until this point I basically assumed that the CC thing was to limit what you could do so you wouldn't be capable of riding beyond your means, but now that I thought of a situation where you could get hosed by a mistake easy to make for a beginner, I change my stance.

You haven't rode before? Dude just go and get a new GSXR 1000. That way you don't need to upgrade when you outgrow a smaller bike. Don't forget to go get a tan at the salon, get some gel for your hair, a tank top and some shorts. You will be the coolest guy on the streets and the chics will be chasing you all over town.

Spoiler:
Now lets be serious. If this is your first bike seriously just get a beater at first. Maybe even a cheap Ninja 250 to pop your cherry. That way you won't give a **** when you drop it. Get some gear, take an MSF class and be smart unlike half the idiots on the street with bikes. Bikes are very unforgiving and on screw up could cost your life or a body part or two. And don't forget you're not the only person you need to worry about.

i'm HEAVILY considering getting the 2010 gixxer 750 when it hits.

i consider it a tribute to the ultimate sportbike line (even though i'm a honda fanboi) since it'll be the 25th anniversary edition.

can't wait for the pictures to drop, hopefully they put enough effort into retooling it to push me over the edge (i love them as they are, they are fantastic motorcycles)

Saw this bike up close recently.

it's done by a company near me in upstate new york

Transformer Themed 2008 Busa. I'm gonna guess the guy put about 15k in extras in it and i wouldn't really want to ride it (well yes i would, but not daily lol) but it really was a piece of art that was capable of 200mph.

only people who "get" bikes can see all the minute detail in this thing- it was beautiful.

Thanks. They look great but are more form than function out of the box; bit lightweight on performance. but they're solid engines & can be readily improved on. Porker too; needs to lose some weight if you wanna hit anything off the road in any serious fashion...

You guys were recently encouraging me on the Vulcan 500 as a first bike on this thread. Today I sat on that bike as well as a Honda Shadow 750 Aero. Both felt good.

The 750 was a 2004 with 5280 miles. Including all fees it came to $5300. I put down a deposit to hold the bike till Tuesday, that day I call them and tell them whether to deliver it or get the cash back.

Any thoughts on this bike as a first bike? It looks beautiful and I was very easily able to sit flat footed on it, put my feet on the pegs with the salesman holding it (I also sat on a Spirit with forward pegs, that was way uncomfortable).

This is the same model except different pipes and no windscreen.

Bump for my Triumph

Just put some bad-ass retro tank badges on today:

WARNING: How Much Do I Tip? Post

The delivery on the Shadow is free, but the salesman told me "We just ask that you take care of the guy, he's dropping it off after finishing work." It's about a 45 minute ride to my place from the dealership. I have no idea but I would hazard a guess that I should tip between 50-150. Any suggestions here?

Any recommendations for good rain covers? Also need to find a helmet and other gear, and it being delivered on Tuesday and having only a couple hours today and then Labor Day (yeah, right, unless places are actually open) to find equipment will make things pretty tough. Bike might sit wherever it's dropped off in my driveway for a couple of days.

I'm happy with my Cortech and FirstGear gear. I suggest getting a jacket and pants that are waterproof and skipping the rain suit.

i can vouch for newenough

they kept me geared up on the cheap when i was 18.

It's easy to get help and they always had good looking gear that wasn't brutal $$ wise.

never had rain gear though, my leather jacket took a freakin beating (never even trated it)- but help up really well overall.

i'd love to do a horror story ride series of posts- anyone ever been through hell on 2 wheels? i have 2 decent ones
