Too many threads about cars.

Any riders out there?

I'm going to get a motorcycle early in the new year. What are some of the best options for 125cc and below?

Thanks!

Nice bike fella.

I plan on going 2 wheels sometime soon. Just a 125 offroad style bike (a road legal one obv) to learn on then prob a 250 off road or my dream bike if i can find the money and one in good order, the Bonneville

I'll be closely watching this thread, I'm interested in possibly getting a motorcycle, but I don't know the first thing about them and I don't know anyone that rides

Or should I just take a full test so as to not have any limit on what I can ride?

Where are you planning on riding? 125cc is pretty small. Did you mean 1250cc? Do you want a sport bike or cruiser? How much do you want to spend? I've always had cruisers. If you like that, I'd look at some older '90s yamaha virago 750's. They are cheap and will run forever. Great 1st bike, imo.

In the UK if you dont have a full license and/or are younger than 21 you are limited to 125cc.

Personally i plan on taking the basic competence test for a L license, then getting a cheap 125 to potter about on till i get the hang of it, a couple lessons and the full license. It seems like a bad idea to start with a bigger bike (both in weight and power), but thats just me.

Thanks Dave. To be honest, I know next to nothing about motorcycles. In the UK, I think the highest you can get with just a CBT licence is 125cc. This is just a 1/2 day test which appeals...

I will mostly be riding around town, with some longer road trips here and there.

I think I prefer the sports type bikes aesthetically, although yours looks great! I have no clue what this means with regards to handling etc.

I guess I should just go for a full licence and not have to worry about power restrictions...

I just got my license after taking the "Riders Edge" course on a Buell Blast (492 CC).

Looking for a 500 CC bike to start even though people recommend Sportster, I think....I've been looking at the Vulcan 500. Any recs for a new rider??

Yeah, Vulcan 500 would be a good one. Imo, the most important thing is that the bike fits you. If you are short, you might want a lower bike. The more comfortable you feel on the bike, the easier it will be to ride. I would also try to find something cheap. You WILL drop your 1st bike. After you get your license and you feel good riding, get what you want. The Sportster Nightster is one badass bike, iyam.

Had a pretty bad accident on my first bike (commuting to London on a Yamaha Virago 535), the next bike I got a few years later in California (Yamaha V-Star, just like a bigger Virago):

After a year, my confidence returned (Honda VFR):

I like all kinds of bikes! I had to sell it a year or so ago, my back went and I can't ride any more

Within the year, I will be getting a ride. (yay next birthday)

Have 20k for it and been startin to think harder about it. I want a motorcycle, but my family isn't too keen on it and that might kill the plans right there, + it won't be practical. Canada and long ass winters the main reason.

No real experience on a street bike, and just minimal dirt biking, camping stuff mostly, and lots of 4-wheeling. Am sure I could pick it up quickly. So curious. I like the V-star and Virago styles, but am fairly tall, 6'3"ish and still climbing. Anyone have any idea how they are for fit, height and so on? In general?

I'm hoping if I can convince them, that a bike and good 2nd hand car is the way to go, instead of just a new car. Also, anyone have ideas about how insurance works with that? I see people also talking about restrictions for cc according to age, but am not aware of that here. Have a few friends with bikes so can likely find out, but also if anyone knew that'd be great too.

Prob. a pipe dream and will end up with a "safe, reliable car" but plan on giving it a go atleast.

This is my 2003 Vegas. Runs like a bat out of hell. The motor is bullet proof. I couldn't be happier with it.

You might find they are a little small for you (I was very comfortable but only 5'9"). V-star is bigger, obv, maybe you should sneak out to a bike shop and try a couple out!

Went to a pretty bad ass ama event today at VIR that's on the border of NC/VA with my aunt who a sport bike race instructor. It was hot as ****, but we got to see some impressive racing. Oh and a few fine sloots wearing next to nothing was nice too! I don't have a bike yet but hope to get one down the road. Not too sure about racing, but my aunt and several other riders, say its much safer on the track. I can't wait to learn!

Have a 2008 Triumph Bonneville, 1981 Yamaha Seca 550 Cafe Racer and a 1973 Honda CB500 Four. The Mrs. rides the 500 Four predominantly. Love my Triumph. Big enough to pass at 80+ but not too bulky and takes corners pretty nicely.

I think Seca and Seca II are excellent beginner bikes. Super reliable, not too heavy but have good acceleration and handle nicely. Look them up on Craigslist in your area if you are shopping for a first bike.

For beginners who want a new bike, I think the new Moto Guzzi V7 Classic is a kick ass looking bike that is a good size for a new rider. Review Here.

I love Victorys. The 8ball is one of the coolest looking production bikes out there. Best bang for your buck, imo. If they made one with a springer front end, I'd be riding one right now.

Is it uncomfortable to ride with bars that high? Always wondered.

They are actually very comfortable. My back stays straight so I don't have to bend forward and the bars are still low enough that I am not reaching upwards for them. Some of the really high, 18" ape hanger bars, I'd imagine would get a bit uncomfortable after awhile.

Finally, a Harley guy that's not slobbing the knob of the MotorCo day and night!

I've since added heat tape to the pipes, and a seat/sissy bar for the wife.

'06 8-Ball. Love it.
