I actually don't think what OP did was all that terrible.

Mother-in-law blocking the path and demanding the baby is sort of like her telling OP: "You're incompetent as a parent - give the child to me now."

The way OP brushed past her was rude though - next time why not say "I've got it taken care of just heading for the pacifier (smile)". No need to shoulder-charge her.

Uhhh, the shoulder-check is the reason everyone is all over the OP. If he had simply said to her "I've got it," there wouldn't even be a thread, much less all the hate he's deservedly getting.

Wouldn't saying such a quote to the mom-in-law not really accomplish much since she doesn't speak English? Call me crazy!!!

Level IMO... My wife at 2 weeks after birthing my son could barely walk up & down the stairs, much less head off to the post office to ship a case of bowling balls...

This would make a great sitcom though...

Huh? I think the "obvious" joke isn't so obvious to you.

Douchebags tend to hang out with other douchebags. Wife is Swedish? Pre-preggo pics?

Well of course your buddies D-bol and Deca think it's a great idea to shove old ladies out of your way.

If mother in law complains to your wife, just tell your wife that you thought she had said:

"Red rover, red rover: send Anadrol over!"

There is actually more to the story but I wanted the incident to stand on its own....

To theose that have kids and in-laws, have you ever had an incident such as this?
The back story is what I want to hear. If this happened with my mo-in-law when my daughter was that age, I would have just given her a look that told her it was time for her to back the **** off and that would have been the end of it. If it happened now, I would have knocked her on her ass and then stomped on her achilles as I stepped over her motionless body.

My in-laws are coming for a visit this weekend. I love my 20-month old immensely, but as I take care of her during the day and work at night, they can do whatever the hell they want with her, so long as I can sit on my ass for ten minutes.

Anadrol,

Can you try to contain all semi-fabricated stories about your wife's family to this thread? Your coffee thread was such an awkward attempt to make up some more **** you did/want to do to them.

I have a newborn (two weeks) and with the joys of the baby we also received a visit from my wife's family. They live out of the country so they are staying here for a while. Although I have known this woman (mother in law) for over ten years, we barely know each other as she barely speaks English.

My wife went out to the post office to mail some bowling balls (another good story) and left me in the bedroom with my son. I heard him crying so I got up to turn on the ac and as I open my door this lady is right outside my door. She asked me if she should take him and I told her it was alright. I return to the bedroom and immediately unplug the baby video/audio monitor and try to calm my little man down. What he really wants is his mother's tit so he stays kind of hyped up.

About ten minutes later he really starts yelling/crying. I get up with him in my hand to bring him to another room to get a pacifier and she is walking down the hall towards our bedroom. In the narrow hallway she makes a motion for me to give the baby to her and I again said it was alright. She then blocks the way and keeps symboling for me to give her the baby. I turned sideways and plowed right through her shoving her to the side. Did I do the right thing?
This is totally standard and I imagine most of the people on this thread hating you have never had children.

she was out of line for being so intrusive and not letting u handle your crying baby after u told her you wanted to handle it

u were out of line for shoving her out of the way

this is why it's best to not have family visit the first few weeks after having a baby...they are intrusive and think they know best, etc...best to have just the two of you so you can figure out together what works for YOU, not what worked for a family member 2-3 decades ago

there are many ways to do lots of things properly with babies, but the only right way to do it is the way that is comfortable for the parents

i don't get all the people who think he shoulda just handed over the baby because she wanted to hold it

u think she is entitled to hold the baby whenever she wants just because she made a trip to visit? the baby is his, not hers, and she is not entitled to anything...obv it would be messed up if he never let her hold the baby during the trip, but if he wants to be the one to soothe his 2-week old baby, then that is his choice

the shoving is the only bad part here...the not wanting to be forced to give up his baby because the visitor wanted to hold the baby is not bad...especially when the baby was crying and he wanted to try to soothe it
