Or if once it reaches a certain point, like when you have enough skin for a 350lb guy, there's a limit it can bounce back. So no matter what you'll have loose skin once you go under 250 or something.
A fair bit of reading recently has told me that lots of lay people contend that it helps, but that doctors mostly contend that it doesn't, largely attributing excess skin or the lack thereof to genetics, age related elasticity or inelasticity, and length of time you kept it stretched out. I've been carrying around a lot of weight for a long time. Also, as pu by an authority on all such matters, MLYLT, I'm "an old", so I'm probably relatively screwed.
It does seem to be generally accepted that things will get better with the passage of time, and that after a year or two, assuming that one gets to a pretty low percentage of body fat and gets rid of most of the subcutaneous fat, the skin should rebound to some degree.
I actually feel pretty fortunate about how I look presently considering how big I was (topped out over 260 at only 5'8"), and how long I stayed pretty fat (it's been about 20 years since I got over 220), and I'm hoping to be able to come to terms with the reality of things, like RJ seems to have.
Unfortunately, even if a long slow weight loss would help, I've dropped around 65 pounds in about 5-ish months, and about of 80-85lbs from the high point, so I've long since passed those exits on this road. At this point I'm not all that close to what I considered a goal weight (155), but as I sit at around 180 today I'm much more concerned the way I feel, with transforming the composition of my body, converting some of this remaining fat to some muscle mass, and ensuring that I don't end up diabetic, than I am looking at a "satisfactory" number on the scale.
