When I moved out of CT 7 years ago the month of February saw us get a foot of snow EVERY week with no place left to put it as the piles of shoveled snow grew higher and higher. We are never returning to that climate. Snow was fun when I was a kid, not so much as an adult

You probably have a different definition of "barely snows" than somebody living in Las Vegas.

Pretty sure the blizzard at the end of January brought more snow to most parts of New England than a lot of people see in their lifetime.

Besides that, even with way less snow than in the past, continental climate sucks. That's one of the main reasons why I have no desire to stay in the Midwest longterm. There are nice places in the world where it's a dry 80-90 on most summer days and around 60 most days in the winter. Vastly preferable to places where the heat index gets to 105+ in the summer and the wind chill might get below -30 in the winter?

We signed the lease today. We're actually moving to Round Rock TX and I'll be just 10 minutes away from The Lodge! Super excited to be able to play and vlog there, w00t!

I don't play that much, but all vloggers at the tables are obnoxious.

Is Round Rock slower, quieter lifestyle, small town, low traffic ?

Out of all the annoying things that happen at a poker table, someone "vlogging" would be right up near the top.

I haven't played at a table where someone was vlogging so can't really say what it's like. My plan was to just have my camera on my cards and chips to record footage, I wasn't planning on sticking my camera in peoples faces or slowing the action down.

We changed our mind after the 2nd home with water damage that wasn't disclosed in the listing and we had to find out at the showing, and decided to shift gears to rent something in TX and get me close to vlog-friendly poker so I could work on growing the channel and have access to some juicy games.

Here in Tampa I have to drive 35-40 minutes for live PLO where filming isn't permitted and they treat their dealers like human garbage so many great dealers left and are replaced with rookies who struggle. Add in that the room struggles to get enough dealers to meet demand and sometimes you can get stuck waiting 3+ hours trying to get a seat because the lists are so long and they don't have the staffing to meet the demand.

The Lodge is roughly 2x the size of the Tampa Hard Rock poker room, has a better rake structure for cash games ($10/hr vs $5+2 jackpot drop raked games or $16/hr time rake games in Tampa), has more PLO action from what I've seen and is player and vlogger friendly.

Which part of RR are you in? What high school would your place feed into?

If your vlog is half as exciting as this thread then count me in. Also interested in going over your Netflix recommends, how you put together a grocery list, and watching paint dry. Also be sure to make a new thread asking and posting about the many various routes you can take to get from fla to tx!

I was going to give some food recs, something may come to mind if I had an idea which part you are in. RR isn't a quaint town, it is part of a huge area of sprawl along the interstate from San Antonio to DFW. I don't know the area too well up there, but one of the best taco spots in Austin has a store in RR and one of the few real chinese restaurants is up bordering Austin and RR. Veracruz All Natural and A+A Sichuan.

ah ty. We mostly cook at home and will get takeout a couple of times/week. The chinese here in FL sucks compared to what we were accustomed to in New England. Although I wasn't really expecting great chinese food in TX either.

I can't really speak for the chinese food since I love places with lunch specials and not a lot of class, but the Vietnamese food was great in Dallas (especially Garland). Austin is filled with hipsters and they love Vietnamese food, so I assume the Vietnamese food is good in Austin as well.


edit: Are they still hipsters or have they been replaced with something more modern?

Oh I'm all about the cheap americanized takeout version of Chinese, sweet & sour chicken, chicken wings, beef teriyaki, etc. I've just found the offerings here in FL aren't as tasty as they were up north.
