Still a great movie.
thing about the matrix is had a ton of studio interference and last minute rewrites so what was originally something deeply grounded in science and based on plausible situations got rewritten and dumbed down until it reached a point where the studios felt it was dumb enough for the audience to understand - this is why it's just a series of vignettes that don't make much sense, for example, they put the bug in him, but then don't use it to actually spy or track him but let him secretly rendevous and go about his plans, etc etc it's just one after another that was later reconned in sequels with "oh we planned all this"

for example, the battery thing was because studio executives didn't think the audience could understand using humans for processing power via a neural net

but we aren't left saying wtf to all the inconsistencies, contradictions, plot holes, and just dumb stuff because keanu luckboxed his way into being the perfect distraction from it all

keanu's neo was a clueless bumbler who never thought deeply and just went along with it at all times, never asking questions, when he needed something he'd just figure it out as he went along - that zen indifference helps make the audience indifferent to it all as well

someone who acted in that role would have shown intelligence, empathy or understanding, in which case the absurdity of the entire premise collapses within on itself - when the actor playing neo shows that he cares instead of just being there experiencing it, you begin to realize how absurd it is to care because none of it makes sense

with keanu, the film was simply a vehicle to explore some incredible concepts skin deep and splice in plenty of incredibly orchestrated action sequences

with another actor, you start asking too many questions, why would he do that? but this doesn't make sense? shouldn't they just have done this instead?

his acting style of being flotsam just floating about wherever the waves take him was absolutely perfect for the film and the only way it could work

with keanu, there is no spoon so there is nothing to critique

That's definitely as compelling of a defense of Keanu's existence in that movie as I've come across. My next viewing of it might be through new eyes.

rickroll has been a posting hot streak as of late.

Keep it Up!

Code3 looks a lot like Keanu, but with a receding hair line and no unkempt beard. Same body, eyes, mouth, jaw, very similar nose..... sexy.

Didn’t know they offered Will Smith the role. Looked it up and he has a short video on YouTube explaining why he turned it down. Apparently he initially turned down Men in Black.

Will Smith as Neo: I KNOW JIU-JITSU!!!

I've seen similar but not that extreme; I recall being surprised the pull tab wasn't the weak point. Did you have goo all over the interior of your car? (I mean without having to use a UV light to see it)

Lol. Yes, there soda spray.

I saw The Matrix a few years after it came out and haven't seen any sequels.

The sequel was ****ing horrible beyond description. Didn't make it to the third after that.

There's going to be a Matrix 4 coming out and Priyanka Chopra is going to be in it so you just know it's going to be good!

Yeah I'll put that on the queue right behind Dumb and Dumberer.

I've never seen a can explode from heat. When it;s below freezing and the liquid expands, yes,

Hope the clean up wasn't too bad, BigHurt.

I quite liked the first Matrix movie, and I liked Keanu's role in it. He was far better than Will Smith would have been.

I never want to hear another word from either of Will Smith's children.

I haven't watched The Matrix in a while, but just remember thinking it was a rip off of a star trek tng episode, which was likely a rip off of something else.

I mean as long as we're going with the rickroll line of his role in it being good because having a bland and talentless caveman in the role worked for the situation, so be it. But if ever there could be a hint that Keanu Reeves did anything right with his acting merits...woof. It always feels like a bunch of people have been allowed to wander through life thinking that he actually did something to earn his paycheck for that movie. The only human being to ever bring significantly less verve to a role was Sofia Coppola in The Godfather Part III.

Fortunately, she balanced her range with her directorial efforts.
