No, just do not post it in the "Vegan" thread.

Going way back (early to mid 90's), I used to peruse the rec.music.reggae board (Kids, ask your parents about Usenet). When Ace of Bass was making it big, a lot of the old-timer posters ("Ras George", for example) were railing on them for being Nazi's and appropriating reggae music to the white-right. I don't think I ever saw real evidence, and wasn't that interested in looking for any.

They (the old timers) were also (to me) reverse racists, and misogynists, intolerant of opposing views, shouting down dissenting opinions, etc. I didn't last long on that board, I was just there looking for kind vibes and tasty music. There was none of the former.

It did get me to a Rock n Reggae festival at Angel Fire, New Mexico in 95 which introduced me to a lot of awesome reggae, like Toots and the Maytals, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, etc, as well as some good rock acts like Stephen Stills and Blues Traveler.

Not sure if you are aware but there’s an extensive history of whites appropriating and completely absorbing/taking over black culture and coining it as their own invention, especially in music. See: the origins of rock and roll. It’s perfectly understandable if black reggae fans are wary of or have a visceral reaction to whites appropriating their music.

Where is the place in the world where "grizzly bear" colloquially refers to something else?
05-14-2021 , 04:14 PM
I really don't get the people who were saying no to grizzly bear but yes to ****ing elephant.

People are underestimating geese. As a victim of a goose bite, I can attest to their ferociousness.

Elephant seems pretty simple. Just grab the trunk and go for a leg sweep.

There is a goose on the local golf course and during certain seasons, it will mess you up bad. I routinely give it a wide berth. The bird is known to go for the testicles.

Get the elephant like an ATAT on Hoth. Easy game.

Was once set upon by a flock of geese and it was rather intimidating.

People are underestimating everything. I wouldn't want to fight a rat or cat, but I know dogs and would beat the **** out of them.

I'd need at minimum a knife but preferably a baseball bat to take down an elephant.
05-14-2021 , 05:23 PM
I'd rather have a bat than a knife with most of those things. For elephant it really is a tough call. I don't think a whack to the leg or head is doing much.

I was going to say just run away from the elephant. Then I looked up how fast they can run. Not sure what good a bat will be or a knife for that matter but you are not going to outrun one.

A mouse would be helpful in this situation.

Just a reminder to always stay strapped.

You're reading my mail.

Men on that chart are vastly overrating their fighting abilities.

We have a large flock of neighborhood geese. When we get a lot of rain, the geese begin to get brave enough to wander into our yard. A few weeks ago I was walking one of my small dogs and he was very interested in them, so I thought it would be entertaining to approach them to see what happened. Three geese left the gaggle to approach us. My dog lost most of his interest, and I wasn't feeling so good myself. I made an executive decision to leave them alone until they actually entered our yard and then reassess the situation. Luckily for all involved, they made a gentleman's retreat.

Approximately zero people could take a kangaroo.

All you have to do is stand your ground holding a small stick, eyeballing that ****er the whole time.

Spoiler:
it's just a mock charge apparently. If that elephant wanted to crush you wouldn't know about it until it was happening.

When I was in Africa, an elephant mock-charged the truck. Fortunately our guides anticipated and we GTFO, but that was enough. Wouldn't want to see one actually upset.

if you want to take on an elephant, all you need to do is be better than a water buffalo
Spoiler:

if you want to take on a chimp, you're up against these knots of muscle
