Yeah somebody already linked Dunning Kruger.

The stupidest people are too stupid to even know that they are stupid. It kind of makes sense too when you really think about it. Realizing one's own stupidity is at least recognizing and knowing something, that takes like a smallest kernel of thought to do. The bottom of the barrel stupid folk don't even possess the intelligence enough necessary to recognize how stupid they are.

Also to get like 3000km southwest of Perth, dude must have literally ran the plane until it was running on absolute fumes. I still feel like the crew was incapacitated or something. I get that assuming the worst that the pilot is on a joyride or something, he's suicidal, not acting rational, but still, seems like he eventually put his feet up and ran the thing south until it ran out of gas, which is odd.

Agree. Pretty amazing how they've been able to deduce its location from the very little information they had.

The wiki on Swiss Air is worth a read. The aircraft broke into over 2 million pieces when it impacted the ocean.
Wow, I don't remember this crash at all. Very sad and scary what the pilots went through, let alone the passengers.

Fox News stating that there are storms in the area, which will complicate the search for a while. Very deep ocean in that area (12k feet!).

Recovering this plane will still be a major challenge. 1500 miless of Perth is pretty darned far.

Will the FDR signal (30 day battery, right?) even be audiible if the water is that deep?

From pprune:

The tail height is 18.5m not 20 meters and that is from the ground to tip of the VS. The actual height of the VS from fuselage is about 10m.
Your superimposed T7 pic looks about 2x too big. Whatever that object is, it can't be the tail (assuming 24m is accurate).

News conference at half-past. BBC correspondent says that he's expecting to hear reports from the US P-8 regarding what they have found.

press conference is worthless - just repeating what is already in the media, and naming the specific aircraft and ships that are looking for the debris

Does anyone know why we were searching the South China Sea when within a single day, the aircraft was known to be flying in the opposite direction? Did the military just refuse to communicate to the government?

@cctvnews - The US P-8 has finished its search in a suspected area in southern Indian Ocean without having found any debris, as per an ABC report.#MH370

Dumb question perhaps, but how likely is it that a tail-fin (or whatever they are called) would float? I guess they are hollow to some extent but you would think they would fill with water and sink, leaving only small pieces of lighter stuff on the surface.

Even tho I feel for the victims families, I would be disappointed if they found it west of Australia. I wanted it to be something bigger like some dirt runway in Pakistan or something.

Finally, there's no reason to complicate the scenario by having two pilots who want to hijack a plane instead of one. Occam's Razor. Having both pilots in on it doesn't explain anything as there are plenty of scenarios for how the other pilot was incapacitated.
I don't think it was confirmed that the pilot was an atheist. The Malaysians still claim he was a Muslim. He did 'like' atheistic videos on his channel but I doubt he stopped praying, ate pork etc.

It is a HUGE deal for someone of his status to claim to be Atheist in Malaysia. He would be ostracized immediately by his extended family etc.

I had some Malaysian Chinese students and they were complaining that they couldn't even praise Islam in their classes or even discuss it. They had no right to express an opinion on that topic.

After the air france plain went down outside of Brazil there was an image of a large part of a wing floating and divers trying to secure it with ropes to be able to salvage it. So seems likely that tail also would float.
