the best marketing standpoint is clearly a meteor strike; something literally in the ones of quadrillions chances of happening that was no fault of the airline and may never happen again.

"A meteor hit it over the Gulf of Thailand, the plane could no longer steer, depressurized, they zombie planed around for 7 hours. The end."

Yes, the media has done more than "dis-inform." Furthermore, "being wrong" is not necessarily "disinformation."

It has hardly been confined to the media. The Malaysian gooburment isn't exactly batting 1.000 on this 1 either. i just wanted to get down some coin that the streak would continue. good luck MrWookie

Once again, being wrong is not equivalent to disinformation.

The media is doing what they do best, sensationalize and speculate.

Reality is usually pretty dull and makes for a boring story.

Drama sells, so that's the angle they go with, even if they have to invent it out of thin air.

If there wasn't so much media attention, they wouldn't have to fill so much time with so much speculation and they wouldn't have to report and run with every new bit of info.

Those are top 2 off top of my head
1937 and lol conspiritard.
This is much more of a mystery than either of those.
Well what happened to earhart is still a mystery but given it was 1937 it seems pretty standard for an error to happen, and a lack of technology and resources to find her.

Just think of how crazy this would have been without the work from Inmarsat.

It could have been months/years/decades before any debris was found. We'd have radar coverage showing the plane deviating from its flight path with 4-6 hours of fuel left to burn. The families would have no closure and would have the faint hope that their loved ones were alive somewhere.

If this was a deliberate act it's clearly by someone pretty ****ed up.

The flight remains shrouded in mystery and misinformation. Malaysia Airlines revealed for the first time yesterday that Fariq Abdul Hamid, the 27-year-old co-pilot, was on his first flight aboard a Boeing 777 as a fully-approved pilot. Fariq joined the airline seven years ago and had flown 2,763 hours but was only on his sixth flight in the cockpit of a 777 – and his first without a check pilot overseeing him.
What does that mean? On his previous five flights there was a pilot, a co-pilot, and someone supervising the co-pilot? How does that translate in to 'minimum number of people in the cockpit at one time'?

To go back and check for doppler effect you need to have saved precise received frequency information or recorded the raw waveforms from which frequency could be derived. I'm interested in a more technical explanation of what data from the inmarsat is saved such they they could look for doppler effect.

If you depressurize the plane, doesn't it also get ****ing cold? If so, how does that not also knock out the pilot, even if he's wearing an oxygen mask?

Yes. I'm not sure what you mean with your second question. Approved pilots are allowed to travel in the cockpit even if not doing an official role (which obviously a check pilot is doing).

Yeah I don't consider a single missing person like Jimmy Hoffa or DB Cooper to be anywhere near as large of a scale as MH370. Nor do really insane stuff like the Voynich Manuscript, Dyatlov Pass incident, Taman Shud case, etc, have the same worldwide significance and interest. Historical stuff like Easter Island, Stonehenge, etc, can just be chalked up to us currently not knowing everything about the world hundreds and thousands of years ago.

Without going super meta and "is there God" "are there aliens" "who created us" etc and talking about a singular event or incident, I think MH370 really might be the #1 unsolved mystery of all time.
