I was going to suggest /dev/null, but your suggestion is better.
For those of you who are not UNIX/Linux geeks, /dev/null is where you send output that you don't care about ever seeing, aka the bit bucket.
Can a bit bucket carry boiling oats?

i would do this job for a couple years and make $200,000. basically you get 1,000,000, invest it at 10% a year, and every year you can cash out $100,000. then you quit, or fail purposely, and repay them $1,000,000. the cool million is also devalued due to inflation as well.

say you are terminated after 3 years. can you still get the supervisor position if during your time you managed to recruit many people who also recruited many people and you win the points contest after 21 years?

This probably has been said but I don't want to read through the whole thread.

This is a GREAT deal. You can invest the $1M as soon as you get it, if you can get 15% a year and in four years you'll have an extra million, after you factor in your $240K in salary. Then you can break the contract and pay back $1M and still have $1M left, it will amount for $250K/year for four years. Or, if you like it, you can continue. Plus, it only takes like an hour of your day, and presumably they'd let bring an apron or something to wear made of heat-repellent material to minimize your risk of injury. And even if you absolutely hated it from day one, you could just return the $1M and get out of the contract, so there's really no financial risk involved.

housenuts,
Sorry bro. Supposedly, about 35 years ago, someone tried to pull that off--recruiting like hell and quit after 9 years. In the end, they barely missed out on making super anyway. But since then, they added some fine print to the contracts. Now you have to remain a faithful oat-runner for all 21 years to be eligible for making supervisor. Early termination costs you all of your points.

HighStakesPro,
You have no idea just how badly most people burn themselves on that first day when they're just not prepared for the whole thing, huh? That million sounds great to start with, but hospital bills add up quickly, my friend. Also, dude, if you show up in an apron, prepare to be tasered by the supers. Repeatedy. While dashing with a bubbling cauldron of oats in your hands. Still sound like a good idea to you?

AthenianStranger,
Are you a fellow oat-runner? Were you at the last company outing over at the burn ward at Mt. Sinai?

We don't know each other. I ran oats in Yuma. From the sound of it New City is a lot worse, but I still couldn't take it. These fools talking about investing the money and ****-- make sure you set aside some money for your burn treatments.

PRESENT VALUE vs FUTURE VALUE: anyone here into Financial Analyst or Accountants here?

Present Value of Money Equation:

....................................... Future Value
Present Value of Money = -------------------
....................................... ( 1 + r ) ^n

FV = $1,000,000 let's say r = 7% in an investment
n = 21 (raised to the power of the number of years)

..........1,000,000
PV = -------------- = $241,513
........(1 + .07) ^21

That means the value of the million dollars today is ACTUALLY only worth $241,513.

$47,619 per year x 21 years = $999,999.00

um......I'll say ..........NO thanks....

WTF? Someone stole the OP in another forum. BoilingOatRunner even makes an appearance:

I'm proud that OOT's thread was much more epic, however.
