There are two people hanging off the edge of a cliff. You are the only person who can save them, however you can only save one of them. They are both unconscious and the person who you save will have no knowledge of their life ever being in danger. You have known each one of them for exactly one year.

The first person is a person of the same sex and is a friend. This person is not your best friend, however they have come through for you in several marginally-important situations such as running a crucial errand or lying for you in order to make things work more smoothly for you. You like this person, and while you do not go out of your way to spend time with them, you do enjoy their company on the few occasions you have spent time with them. There is no guarantee you will continue to be friendly acquaintances in the future.

The second person is someone who you think is absolutely gorgeous. In addition to being incredibly sexy and beautiful physically, the few conversations you have had with this person consisting of something more than," Hey, what's up?" have been deep and thought-provoking. Ideally, you want to date this person and possibly become involved in a serious relationship. There is no telling whether or not you will marry this person, as that is way down the road. While this person certainly knows who you are, there is nothing but the purely hypothetical prospect of a relationship at this point. That being said, you are going to try your absolute best to get to know this person better.

Obviously, if you knew that you were going to end up in a serious relationship with the second person, you would save them. However, and hence the title of this thread, while the potential payoff of saving the second person is greater than the first person, there is no guarantee that you will "hit your draw" so to speak.

**** this thread title. I pick person 2. Person 1 will be a good friend until one of us changes jobs/moves/whatever and I'll never see him again, prospects and current state of person 2>>>>1. Changes if person 1 is at all family, or if person 2 has a hot sister.
