I have a few comments:

1. Nice work on getting in shape.

2. Excellent, fantastic, work on driving past her, hiding, and pretending to run into her. More than makes up for not sitting next to her on the bus. Tell me, though, how did you explain your random presence on PCH? Did she know your car was there or did you walk to Starbucks?

3. You don't have to worry about whether or not she is legitimately interested in you. As i'm sure you are already aware, nobody will ever approach you because they are trying to enhance your life. Every person who has ever interacted with another person in the history of time has done so in order to further their own personal agenda. The art of human social interaction is to use communication to align the goals of another person with your own goals in the interest of mutual benefit (either perceived or real.) So it doesn't matter if she wants your kidneys or a marriage visa, it's your job to demonstrate to her that having sex with you first would be of tremendous benefit to her.

4. Microbet is on to something. I have an idea...

Tell her your friend from Vegas just called you with two extra tickets to a concert in LA. You need a date and figured you'd give her a call. Let her know that your friends are picking you up in a limo, taking you to an amazing dinner in Beverly Hills, and then heading off to the concert. Usher and I and some ladyfriends will road-trip it to give you moral support and help your general cause.

The weekend of Aug. 14th works for me.

I have been planning a trip up the entire west coast for a while now, leaving Tuesday, which I'm very excited about. So it will have to wait. Is the time frame variable?

Just now I was standing on that same corner, maybe 50' from the bus stop where I first saw the blonde, and two very cute, very young girls in a Lincoln Navigator waved at me and smiled. Then they giggled and drove off. In the past I would have been 99% sure they were making fun of me for some reason. But now, maybe only 50%. I really should just hang out on that corner all day. It's like a reverse Bermuda Triangle for me.


Also, sigh. I know aladare is secretly reading this thread and is going to kill me (just to be clear, because this girl isn't a lot older than aladare's daughter, who is like a daughter to me - not because of jealousy or anything).

I called the blonde yesterday. I am leaving for a two week + trip on Tues, so I figure it's now or never. I didn't want to wonder what might have happened. Also I started thinking about how amazing her breasts probably look.

But it's not like I'm some swinger lothario just wanting to add another notch to his belt. My love life for the past 15 years or so has been 99.9% wandering in the desert dying of thirst--maybe once every few years I get to lick the dew off a rock, suck on a cactus, or squish the juice out of some bugs--to extend the metaphor. WHY CAN'T I DRINK FROM THE WELL JUST ONCE???

So anyway, I figured I'd call and it would be the wrong number, or I'd leave a message and she wouldn't call back. So at least I could say I tried. But she answered. The conversation was a little weird. She said she'd call me back and let me know. Okay, no way she calls me back. Good, at least I know. Done. But she did call back and we're going to dinner in about 3 hours, after a nice walk on the beach.

I plan to be a perfect gentlemen, although I reserve the right to try something if I'm getting super heavy vibes from her. I plan to be honest about my age if she asks. Also at no point am I going to lead her on and give her any hope that a fiance visa is a possibility. I'm sorry Irie and others living vicariously if that jeopardizes punani opportunity. But I need to do these things to at least be able to hold my head up and look aladare and daughter in the eye afterwards. Although if I do these things, don't get any, AND aladare still hates me and won't let me around her daughter anymore, that would suck.

I will try to get one pic (for the phone book obv). But I'll probably put a bar over her eyes just to avoid trainwreckage possibilities. If there are any ladies reading this thread, do you think that's an acceptable level of respect?

suzz - Congrats. Just go for it dude. The age thing is pretty wacky but stop giving a crap what aladare thinks.

My grandparents got divorced when my Mom was young. My grandfather was 35 or 36 when he remarried some fine looking 21 year old. They had 3 kids together and were married for about 50 years until my grandfather passed away a few years ago. I think my step-grandmother (who was like another grandma to me really) was something like 7 years older than my Mom. My Mom is 18 years older than her youngest sibling. So what?

36 and 21 isn't exactly the same as 40 and 19 but it's kinda/sorta close-ish.

And you're not even looking to marry this girl. You're just going out with some pretty young thing who evidently is cool with dating someone as old as you. If aladare or anyone else disapproves then that's their problem. Stop giving a crap.

I voted the non-sex option because I always get you and LFS confused (yes I realize this is dumb now that he's a mod and thus a different color). If you aren't attached, def hit that ****.

Well just to be clear, my relationship with aladare's kid means more to me than a chance at a fling with some hot girl. Watching the kid grow up has been one of the great joys of my life, and ultimately I would never do anything to jeopardize that. I'm just hoping aladare and her will put up with this until it runs it's course. Or aladare will put up with it and we'll just leave the daughter out of the loop.

I almost wish you posted this under a gimmick account, so we didn't have to worry about Aladare's daughter.

But nice work so far. You've already posted all the nice guy stuff. you don't have to actually do all that if its going to cost you some action. The bottom line is, this girl knows you want to bone her if she's as hot as you say. But she's in a foreign country, she's having fun, so your chances are real good IMO.

Please get a photo. Easy way, take her out near some kind of tourist attraction and get a random Japanese person to take a happy snap. Post on OOT ------> Thread delivers!

I really don't see why the age of the daughter has anything to do with it. Oh goodie...they're about the same age. So what? There's a fair chance a 17 year old girl is going to be somewhat judgmental about this but that shouldn't dictate what you do with your life if you are okay with it. That doesn't mean you have to rub their face in it if they disapprove. But if they want to be so judgmental as to let the friendship drop over who you choose to date then I don't really think they're that great friends to begin with.

When I graduated high school, my uncle (who was about 40 at the time) came to my graduation with his girlfriend at the time. She was smoking hot. I got to talking to her, and she said "oh yeah, I remember my graduation 3 years ago". I remember thinking how cool my uncle was for pulling that off. Too bad Aladare didn't have a son instead of a daughter. Then you would forever be the man in his eyes.

If you get an inkling this is what she is after, you should 100% string her along, just make sure to CYA.

The OP was well written, entertaining, and presents a reasonably interesting dilemma. That it happens to be about the OP is the only thing that makes it bloggy in the least.

Please stab yourself in the face and then post about it- I think you'll get a fantastic reception.

Some of the best posts in OOT have bloggy undertones -- All of the ask me threads (red lobster, sailing around the world), roommate + lathe, trip reports, etc.

Just because this thread is about something that happened IRL to suzzer doesn't mean it shouldn't be here. Also, it's a follow up to another one of his threads that was highly rated.

And your thread could have been good if you had actually been 'strong armed' by the AC company. Then you would have gotten a much better reaction. But it just turned out that you freerolled an AC unit and then got mad when they took it away from you.

Phat Pots, if she wasn't 19 (and me 40), I never would have made the post. Also the history with PCH and the bimbos thread added some interest imo.

Moving along. The date last night was anti-climactic, but interesting. I guess she is just a really nice girl, a little goofy, and as z32 pointed out - I don't think she has any idea how old I am. She's definitely has her own unique attitude on life, and we did manage to fill the entire time with fairly stimulating conversation, despite the gap in life experience. This was my biggest worry going in. She was very bubbly throughout.

I narrowly avoided a really awkward situation when I went to her door. I figured if there was any chance of bumping into say - a host family much closer to my age than hers, she would have warned me. But as I went to the door I could hear people talking inside. I thought about going back down to my car and calling, but I was worried maybe they had seen or heard me coming up the steps. So I rang the doorbell, which I guess didn't work. After about 15 seconds, I did not knock, but scuttled off the porch and called her from the car. She came down, and obviously did not want me to come up. Her living situation turned out to be a very nice host family. That would have been really really awkward. Ugh.

Oh yeah, I found out she thinks everyone in LA is so friendly, because when you make eye-contact with them, they smile(!). I'm still pretty sure her smile for me on the bus had some kind of intention behind it. No one is that naive. And I didn't see her smiling at everyone else.

She said she drinks a couple times a year. Like when I told her that she almost certainly wouldn't get carded she said "what is the drinking age under 21 here?". So I really don't think she's even looked into the option of drinking anywhere in the month she's been here. The waiter was even pushing the wine-tasting dinner special on us pretty hard. She had water and didn't eat much. Also tried very hard to pay half, like more than just token resistance. I told her she could get the next one.

I parked at my apartment then walked along the beach to the restaurant. She was very adamant about not going into my apartment either time. I think because good girls just don't do that on the first date or something. Also, and LOL, she's really not into getting her picture taken. This is her thrashing around the one time I tried to take it:



Oh the oot irony. Seriously I was laughing to myself pretty hard. She said in family photos she always tries to be the one taking the picture.

We had a little hug at the end, and she seemed genuinely disappointed that I was going to be gone for 2 weeks. It'll probably giver her time to come to her senses. I gave her my full name for facebook. You can't tell how old I am immediately but between FB and Google I think she can figure it out pretty quick. I guess I'll give her a try when I get back into town and see what happens.

Phat Pots - It actually doesn't have anything to do with reputation. It's simply about post quality. If you had made the EXACT same op with the exact same replies (including the pics showing your weight loss) the popularity of the thread and quality of responses would be the same.

Similarly, if suzzer or I or anyone else made that same air conditioning thread they would have gotten the same "ummm, this is idiotic" type replies.

OOT is not out to get you. OOT doesn't care. And OOT is always going to be down with interesting posts no matter where they come from. suzzer's situation is interesting and well written.
