What distinguishes a limerick from a failed limerick?
* there are either eight (or nine if you must) syllables in Lines 1,4, and 5
* there are usually five or six (or rarely four) syllables in Lines 2 and 3
* Lines 1, 4 and 5 rhyme
* Lines 2 and 3 have a different rhyme
Wrong. Lines 1,2, and 5 rhyme, as do lines 3 and 4. See your own example, dunce.
