I have a similar story but with a herd of charging wild pigs and three teenagers with .22 rifles. USA#1

Never thought of it as life & death tho. More like potential maiming and dismembering. Pretty scary, but, then again, we were young and invincible. USA#1

Under the wrong circumstances, I think I likely die from those dogs. In the situation as it was, there was a nearby truck bed I probably could have gotten myself into, or maybe even climbed a tree. However, if it was later at night, in a different place the outcome could have been gruesome. Obviously there's a lot of what ifs in this scenario as opposed to almost driving off a cliff, but I've been watching a lot of nature films where I see packs wolves and wild dogs take down animals much bigger than each individual dog! I'm guessing the worker had seen it happen with the dogs before, and that's why he was prepared and so quick to act.

Riding dirt bikes with a couple buddies when one flies off the trail and flips end over end a few times. He gets up and walks back over to the trail and then lays down. He gets back up in a few seconds and then lays back down saying every time I stand up everything goes black and I can't see. He tries to get up a few more times but same thing. I tell the other guy I'll stay and he should go get help. Banged up guy says no, I'm fine just grab me a coke. (I'm like WTF? A coke? That's the weirdest **** you could say right now, but whatever.) Other buddy heads home to grab him a coke and comes back with his dad in his truck. He loads the banged up buddy in the truck and we go to the ER. Turns out he ripped his spleen open and they said maybe another 15-30 minutes and he was dead. Good thing he didn't just come back with a coke...
