I wonder if OP read the thread on the state of live games.

Why in the world would you grind 2/5 if you're an experienced network admin?

OP, after I struggled most of the way through that latest wall of text, I'm convinced that it doesn't really matter what you do now. Unless you somehow dramatically change your outlook on the world, it's 99%+ that you are going to have a miserable life, no matter what.

So like 42BB/100 hands?

So you're being sarcastic yes?

When you put it like that, it sounds silly, but those are achievable live. $28/hr at 1/2 isn't difficult, for example.

Good to see OP update. I hate when I read threads like this and everyone is always asking for an update that never comes.

I think it is a very bad idea to start playing 2/5 full time. I think you should get a job as a network admin and play 2/5 on weekends and evenings (when games are going to be juiciest anyways). Then if you are killing it you can go full time (if thats what you want). Be patient and play the games when guys are coming from the drunk from the club and looking to just throw $100 into the pot.

I really think you could end up hating life if you take a big shot and it doesn't pan out. Think what life will be like if you end up with 10K and a huge gap on your resume?

Well I imagine the gap couldnt be any larger than 6-12 months, since thats about how long 50k would last me if I fail/downswing.

Because I've peaked, I'm bored, and I'm tired of office politics. I've been in IT for 12 years now and just have no passion for it anymore, I want out. I have no ambition left to advance this career path and am set to just do the exact same thing for the rest of my life. I'd get into 3d design or mobile app development but it just so happens that I actually have some experience at poker that would be a shame to waste if I turn out to be halfway decent at it full time. 2/5 is the lowest limit you can make a living at live poker and I'm still an amateur so I have to start there. My current salary is 65k pre-tax, which should be doable at 2/5. Dont most 2/5 grinders eek out around 70k pre-tax per year? Even 100k if they're crushers?

There is no comparison between a corporate job at 65k and poker at 70k -- if you can even pull that off.

Medical insurance?

Life insurance?

Matching 401k?

Dental Insurance?

Paid vacations?

Plus it's variance free income.

A 12 months gap on a resume is a killer. Also, the gap maybe longer if you become a bit stubborn. There are a lot of grinders who make little $$ but complain that it is because of variance instead of being able to realize that they are just marginally winning players.

Yeah, I empathize with that. It's a lot of why I played for a living. Now I have a Job and I miss those things, but there's a lot about poker I don't miss. You talked about being stuck in your job and unable to really advance etc. Where is there to advance in poker? No matter how good you get or high you play you're still playing poker. And you're just doing one thing over and over, with a lot of jobs you get to do different things from one day to the next.

These things are true, but make no mistake, it is work. That is if you intend to match your old salary.

No college degree so I get held back a lot by that, I'm a terrible negotiator so my boss's tend to just give me minraises and know I'll do nothing about it, and my lack of ambition to take it to the next level.

A cousin of some guy her sister was hanging out with. They got to know each other and one thing lead to another. What's insane is like a true bro of the man code he actually tried to contact me on facebook once, presumably after finding out she wasnt single. I didnt know who he was and I just said to my g/f "hey who is this guy?". She outplayed me, somehow convinced me to ignore it as spam, then deleted all message history. I forgot his damn name and picture and could never find him again.

Yeah it is, and one of my other passions in life. I've let myself get rusty and feel I'm actually more fluent in poker than graphics so I might as well start with my 2nd strongest trait right now.

This shall soon wear off, and I'd imagine much faster at small stakes. Pay yourself an hourly wage (regardless of the result) based roughly on your hourly expectation after a good percentage is taken off the top for bankroll building, this way you're not living on the swings that so many newbs fall victim to. If that makes it feel like a job, well, guess what?

You think you're depressed now? Wait till you slum it in the casinos and live day to day in that ****hole.

I see you trying to talk yourself in to a state of "It wasn't bad as I thought." with it only being kissing or whatever. Cheating is cheating. What's that stupid saying people use in the business? Oh yeah, "I don't kiss because its too intimate." Please. Yeah that dick balls deep in your ass isn't the same. Got it.

It's OK to still love your wife. You're grieving. I was. My Fiancee of 4 years turned on me and bailed the day after Christmas and then tried to befriend me and did VERY ****ty things like not coming over to take our Dog out the night I had surgery and then when I had to put my cat down she told me she couldn't come by because she was going out for drinks with her friends. Yet for some stupid ****ing reason rarely I still get mad and miss the old her when I wake up in the morning.

Just ... Go to Florida for a bit. The games are good there. If things change, you can just drive right back up. Moving to Vegas is a drastic move and people suck there. I can not stress enough how the place will make you much more depressed until you're back to alright.

Just my opinion and experiences. I doubt you'll listen but I already typed it out.
