It's all a matter of experience and training. Someone with an extensive training in knife fighting (a true lost art in the western world IMO) is going to defeat a random with a bat. Same scenario with a guy with impact weapons training.

In an equal battle, I think we'd find it's a coin flip over time. If we factor in the art of accurately throwing knives, I think the knife guy comes out ahead over the bat guy because of range.

not really a legend. record keeping and newspapers from that time in japan were pretty accurate. especially 1 on 1 duels

@hardball i thought we were talking equals or relatively equal. thats why i used musashi he was fighting equals, superiors, and slightly inferiors. and twice he won with what was essentially a bat vs a sword in a fight to the death.

so it fits all the parameters of the op.

To put a serious response to this thread, I'd have to say most of this is always going to be who strikes first.

Let's look at it this way. A bat is going to be a one hit tool, particularly if we're assuming a normal healthy 18-34 male with some little league experience.

However, a bat is a large, cumbersome instrument as a weapon. I've dealt with attacks with bats on a couple occasions, and if you can run in close enough, that individual can't really manipulate that bat with enough power to do any real damage.

Which is also the ideal range for a knife strike.

So, speed FTW.

I don't know why this is so hard, it's incredibly easy to recreate. All we need is a foam bat, a red sharpie and a couple old white tshirts.
