I enjoyed it while reading it for the most part, I can also picture a lot of it pretty well in my mind (the stacks, the pizza parlor with Pac-Man, the apartment, etc.). Afterwards though it left me feeling like there was nothing substantial there (and of course there isn't, don't think anybody would argue that there is).
- Author has characters "grin" a lot and other similar attempts at affectations and creating relationships that come off as awkward and poorly written.
- The romance was horrible. IIRC it feeds into the misogynist nerd mythology about the woman who will FINALLY see you for you, no self-improvement necessary except to immerse yourself more in geek crap.
- It's nerd culture out of control, just ****ing moronic geek in-jokes that aren't and never were clever or cool in any way.
- Nobody is watching Monty Python movies 100+ times and then still cracking up with laughter over them. GTFO
