Fail.

You saw the opening. So, how could you not respond "Brian Kuh" or "Walter Day"?

A person's opinion of Billy Mitchell is a pretty good indicator of how good or bad they are at life. I'll let you guess what you fall under...

I think you also need to catch up in terms of understanding how fast and loose the movie played with the facts.

The analogy with his pro gaming and the hotsauce business in the docu is just comical GOLD.

Is there anyone in the world who has such a high ratio of quote to gold?

"He sell his hot sauce, he sells himself!"

I still love that.

If you enjoy the drama of King of Kong too much (like me), Walter Day's responses are worth reading.

A documentary on the history of text adventure games just came out:

http://getlamp.com/

Haven't seen it yet - it's released with a Creative Commons license or whatever, meaning it can be "pirated" legally. We'll have to wait for somebody to rip it though, in some quick searches it doesn't look like it's up yet.

I mentioned this over a year ago ITT, but the same guy also did a BBS documentary, also available for "free". Really interesting stuff, and no playing with the truth like with KoK.

The boards also explain why Mr Awesome hates TG so much.

(Short answer-he claims his Missile Command record used a slower cursor speed than the guy who passed him and he's the true king of MC. TG says that they never tracked whether that option was on and it was player's choice)

Any one with a TG record on OOT?

Interesting indeed:

Quote:
In the movie, the facts are portrayed as Steve's 1,006,000 point score being rejected and the world title reverting back to Billy Mitchell at 874,340 points -- the score Mitchell had attained in 1982.

However, the world title portrayed on the movie screen should have reverted back to Steve Wiebe, himself, who was actually already the world record holder at that time with his 947,200 points. Interestingly, audiences watching the \"King of Kong\" are unaware that Steve Wiebe is already, at that time, the World Champion on Donkey Kong and remains so throughout the first 4/5ths of the movie, a fact that the movie plot doesn't reveal.

why are people posting links (and quoting from them) that were already posted IN THIS THREAD 2-3 years ago? it's a bit dumb, especially given this thread is pretty short. anyway i believe i will rewatch the movie this weekend. i was thinking earlier about him breaking the 2 records in one weekend, that really is pretty amazing.

This movie was high on my must watch list a few years ago but after reading about all the historical liberties taken by the filmmakers I put it on the back burner and eventually forgot about it.

In the meantime I've read pretty much everything about the story (including most of the links in this thread). Is the movie still worth watching or the story presented in such a disingenuous manner that it isn't worthwhile?
